Car theft is HUGE here, no one is safe from that. My car has been broken into twice in 3 months. Other than that it’s really not that bad. Central Ave has the best bar strip and has a heavy police presence. so I feel ok walking around at night on Central

I never feel unsafe in this town, even in places or at times of day when some more sensitive people might. No doubt some of that boils down to personality and some to subjective experience. I have never been threatened here, so I never feel threatened. That said, there is poverty here, and with poverty goes property crime. I have had a burglary in my home before. It's not Mayberry, but people who operate with common sense shouldn't worry.
