There are nice parts, Highfield, Lords Woods, ocean village and there are less nice parts. Best to avoid the common and other green spaces at night but I generally feel pretty safe in the city The city centre can be rowdy if there is a football match on however

It’s got a bit rough over the years, during the day I would say I have no worries for the most part, only experienced minor verbal sexual harassment on the streets. I would completely avoid the parks at night, some of which I wouldn’t even go into if I was with a friend.

Southampton experiences a fair amount of poverty and higher rates of crime than the average for the region (southern U.K.). However, this is relative as the U.K. is a very safe country and I would still consider Southampton to be a safe place overall.

Now I'm in my 20s I am looking to travel the world, and someone to do said travelling with!
Maëlis
Hi I'm from France (between Bayonne and Paris) and staying in the uk until mid June. I plan to visit the surroundings and would be glad to build friendships so don't hesitate to reach out for a coffee/a daily trip or whatever you may have in mind! I'm open minded and outdoorsy so kind of up for anything from early morning hikes to night out as long as there is coffee in my day ;)
