It depends where you are in the city, time of day, if you're alone, etc. Public transportation has had some unprovoked random attacks since COVID but it's still the most common way to get around. Overall I would say I feel safe.
Posted: September 23, 2024Homelessness has increased in the last few years. I'm most afraid of them. I can't even walk on the streets without any fear. They are very aggressive, even though you ignore them, they still harass or abuse you. I felt more safer in my native country than here.

Other than a few potentially unsafe areas, Toronto is generally very safe for walking and taking public transport even at night and as a solo woman. As with other other places in the world it’s always good to take safety precautions and to trust your instincts if something doesn’t feel right.

Toronto has its problems like any other major city. We do have a visible unhoused population, many who struggle with mental health. There have been mishaps on the TTC (our public transit system) due to our government failing to support these people in any way. As someone whose main form of transportation is the TTC, I don’t feel unsafe, if I see someone who I believe could be a threat I generally just get off and wait for the next train. Walking around at night is usually fine, there are some sketchy areas in the downtown core and we do have encampments, but as long as you keep your wits about you, you’ll be fine.
Posted: September 14, 2024Toronto is a very safe city. Most of the time everything goes well. But nothing is perfect. There a few trouble with homelessness people with mental disease and drug addiction. They shout sometime but are not aggressive.

It's a very safe city even during the night, would be just careful for the streets where there're people on drugs but except that it's really safe! There's no robbery at all and I'm always feeling super safe in the city
Posted: August 21, 2024As long as you stay away from anyone suspicious looking, you’ll be safe! Some homeless individuals in downtown Toronto may come off as aggressive, but they do not act on this aggression. For the most part, Canadians tend to keep to themselves and are not dangerous people.
Posted: August 4, 2024Depending on where you’re located Toronto can be dangerous or safe. Staying in a good neighborhood should be prioritized when visiting Toronto, if possible. If not, please have someone who’s a local help you out.

People are friendly and helpful. If you're lost, usually someone will notice and offer help. In my neighbourhood of Parkdale, there is very much a neighbourly, community vibe, where we all look out for each other.
Posted: July 23, 2024Toronto is pretty safe aside from the occasional stares from men. You still have to keep an eye out, as one should anywhere but so far I’ve felt pretty safe walking at night. Sherborne & bloor is pretty safe, as well as Landsdowne & bloor.

Toronto is chaotic. I did use the GO system that took me into Union station. From there you get shoved and pushed around, no one to ask for directions or how to connect to a train or bus. Decided to take Lyft for a bite to eat near where I was visiting - the driver was very nice and there was many food options
Posted: July 26, 2024Toronto is the perfect city for travelling. I recommend stay near Harbour bay, there’re lots of Airbnb style hotel with good price. The food on Dundas street is incredible, and I really really like Hot hot rice noodle - the Crispy Pork rice noodle is amazing. Speaking of food, you can’t miss traditional Canadian food called poutine! And also I love Ice Wine sooooo much! Toronto is also a safe city, although you need be careful when you travel at late night in downtown. Otherwise it’s fine. I like Casa Roma, worthy of one-day visiting. CN tower is nice to visit, although I didn’t go to the very top of it (I remember it has different price for different level). I like Harbour bay too.

Hi! I’m Suhanna, born and raised in what is now called Toronto. I took my first solo trip in 2018 to Cuba (after having visited previously with friends) and have been enjoying my little solo adventures here and there since. I do occasionally travel with friends but generally plan my own trips and make friends along the way. Wandering, checking out local art and local eats are usually my main activities when traveling. I also enjoy going to out of town music festivals (Osheaga, Sueños, Gov Ball) and am always open to meeting people at them. If it looks like we’re going to cross paths in the same city, feel free to message!
