Toronto is safe for the most part. It really depends where you are within the city and within neighbouring cities. Overall during the day you should be relatively safe. Just try to know where you’re going and be aware of your surroundings. At nicgut, I would not recommend being by yourself when you’re Downtown. In the suburbs, it is generally ok (again it depends what part of the city you are in) but just have a eye out. Crime has increased within the last few years so it’s important to know where you’re going to get a sense of the safety level in that area.
Posted: May 12, 2025If you’re being mindful of the sketchy areas and stay in the “safer” areas you should be okay but the homelessness and drug use has made the city more dangerous. I’ve personally been attacked on my way to class. Best advice is to just avoid the areas near drug sites or areas that are more rural/lower income neighbourhoods.

I am a pretty social person, there are lots of immigrants here who 99% just want to live their life. I've known one person who had her purse mugged, she was unharmed, this was in a random suburb in North York. A lot of my friends are marginalized populations from downtown to uptown, some are afraid of going out at night, some not, and continue to feel free to. you will see homeless, they're also trying to live their life. Watch and be vocal if you get followed. There are more sketch neighborhoods but in reality those you would be wary of are weird individuals/dumbasses, so where do you find dumbasses? Ie. Those who try to catcall you driving their car past or some shit but that's just annoying and ruins your night. Personally I don't mind walking at night, during day and night I just hate drunkards/unsolicited flirters or construction workers etc.
Posted: April 24, 2025It’s pretty safe overall, it’s a first world city and has infrastructure and a good safety system and human rights for women and minorities. There are a lot of homeless people though who are mentally ill so that could be a bit uncomfortable or disturbing at times but they mostly leave you alone
Posted: April 18, 2025The TTC after dark would be the only thing im worried about so you should be careful when doing so. Other than that its generally safe, just avoid walking at night and neighborhoods that look or feel unsafe

I lived in Toronto for 16 years and the city has felt safe to me for the longest time. Since a teenager, I felt safe to explore the city by myself after dark. Late night events/festivals such as nuit blanche felt completely safe. However, as of recently, due to the economic state of toronto and canada in general, i mean the crazy inflation on EVERYTHING, there’s been a rise in petty crimes. I trust the city will recover tho

Very safe and friendly place. In these days you only want to pay attention when using the subway. Some drug use and poverty around the neighborhood of Cabbagetown and Parkdale but no one will bother you
Posted: April 10, 2025It’s the safest place for women. I go out alone at night all the time, and have never once felt unsafe. Men here don’t really bother women in general, in my experience I don’t get approached on the street nearly as often as in other countries (like the US), and I’ve lived in Toronto for over 10 years.
Posted: March 14, 2025It's not that safe unfortunatly. When it's really dark and late theres a lot of homeless and that got me feeling unsafe. I was in Toronto and i was walking late with friends and we walked past homeless some were talking or whispering something to us. That was really terrifying.
Posted: March 10, 2025It really depends on what area you are in but the biggest threat or more so just uncomfortableness is on public transit late at night as there is a lot of unsheltered people during these times. If you are alone, I would just say to be cautious about your surroundings at all times

Toronto has improved tremendously over the last years! The food scene and club scene have both expended with nice, trendy and upscale spots to rediscover. As for safety, there is an homeless situation going on downtown, so I would just avoid that area after dark. Otherwise? Completely safe. As for budget, there is something for every price point - you just gotta research a bit of everything online and be willing to explore according to what you’re looking for. Great city for a quick weekend reset, with a good balance of things to do. The aquarium is a must.

Hotels and airbnb can be quite expensive. Groceries aren’t cheap either but going out to eat is reasonably priced. Lots of homeless people!! They seem to mostly mind their own business but it felt pretty unsafe. Some parks are completely taken over by homeless camps. They also can come up to you to ask for money or food. Sometimes I buy them something, adding more to the travel costs. Avoid routes coming past homeless shelters to avoid seeing them. Little Italy is a nice place to stay. Kensington Market is cute to visit for cafes, thrift shopping and music.

I’m pretty average person. I like long walks, museums, going to gym, dogs (I have a mini aussie), good food, make up and dress up, a little bit of travel and hiking and do lots of DIY projects around home & yard. I’m travelling to NYC in June 9-13 and would be glad to have a company 😊

Hello Ladies! I’m a 22 year old student from Canada and I’ve just finished an internship in Trondheim, Norway. I’m hoping to travel to Bergen, Göteborg, and Copenhagen before and after a planned work exchange in Norway. I love exploring new places and cultures. I’m quite sociable, enjoy eating, hiking, dancing, and more. I’m looking for a place to stay in these cities to allow me to travel more easily.
