It's pretty safe in most areas. Downtown late at night can be slightly unsafe as there are many drug addicts and unhoused people on the streets. Best to avoid transit after 11 PM too. Other than that I have never felt unsafe
Posted: January 6, 2025Vancouver is pretty safe the only not so safe thing is the amount of drug addict that spread over the city and can be quite an ugly thing to see. That being said they’re not dangerous, but precautions should be taking of course

It’s overall a safe beautiful place with gorgeous nature. There is a dangerous district, but avoiding it everything should be fine. Perfect place for hiking and camping experience. Easy to get to the mountains and ocean and try huge variety of different cousins. This city is multicultural
Posted: December 24, 2024There's a lot of homeless around, and although they have their mental episodes and unpleasant smells while sharing the streets of riding the bus, they USUALLY keep to themselves, mind their own business and don't harass locals or tourists on an agressive level.
Posted: December 18, 2024Vancouver is pretty safe for the most part! Especially the suburbs and areas in the lower mainland. Downtown Vancouver and east side of it is quite messed up but nothing too dangerous. Just know your surroundings and be aware of them and it’s all okay!!
Posted: December 9, 2024Safe in most areas but there are certain dodgy parts to avoid (East Hastings) because of the homeless/drug addicts, especially at night and if alone. Public transit is safe to ride but you may encounter some individuals with mental health issues from time to time.
Posted: November 17, 2024It’s a safe city overall and very walkable. It’s better to avoid east hasting st area crossing with main st. The city has been suffering with the increase of social problems as large number of homeless and drug addicts.

Vancouver is generally safe for women travelers, with well-lit streets and low crime in central areas. Exercise caution in isolated areas at night, and use public transit or rideshares for added safety.
Posted: November 4, 2024Vancouver is a safe city. There is a homeless issue and generally people are harmless but there are some mental health issues which makes it unpredictable. This is mainly concentrated in a few pocket areas. Lots of places to visit in the city that is safe, even the areas with homeless people are safe during the day. Just be aware of your surroundings and don’t leave anything valuable in parked cars.

Vancouver is a very safe city for the most part. There are some areas to be careful in, as with any large city. Particularly at night, downtown on Granville St. can be dangerous. There is a significant amount of people experiencing addiction and housing instability in the lower east side (Hastings St.). Some people report having their car broken into but it is never something I have experienced.

I have been in Vancouver for 3 months now and feel very safe here. Still, I would avoid East Hastings Street and majority of Gastown as a Solo female at night. Even though I luckily haven’t been harassed there, there are a lot of homeless and drug addicts around that area and I did not feel comfortable
Posted: December 27, 2024I had a great time in Vancouver. Scenic view, great food scenary and culture richness. I felt safe using public transportation and mostly all the time, just need to avoid some areas in downtown. I’m looming forward to showing it around.

Hi! My name’s Kate and I’m a young working professional living in Vancouver with my boyfriend and cat. I love travelling, hiking, reading, exploring, arts and culture, and eating good food. I’ve done couch surfing and home exchanges in the past. I’ve also lived abroad for a few years during my studies and while I was au pairing. If you’re travelling through Vancouver and need a place to stay, our couch is open for 1-2 nights. We also have a cat and are open to people coming to cat sit while we’re away. We live in the trendy Commercial Drive neighborhood of Vancouver, close to cafes, restaurants, and public transit. Also open to meeting up with locals and travellers :) I love meeting new people! A little more about me: On a typical day I like biking around, laying outside in the sun, hanging my friends, going out to eat/drink, relaxing with a good book or binge watching some reality tv.
