Is Vancouver safe for women?

Safe in most areas but there are certain dodgy parts to avoid (East Hastings) because of the homeless/drug addicts, especially at night and if alone. Public transit is safe to ride but you may encounter some individuals with mental health issues from time to time.

It’s a safe city overall and very walkable. It’s better to avoid east hasting st area crossing with main st. The city has been suffering with the increase of social problems as large number of homeless and drug addicts.

Vancouver is generally safe for women travelers, with well-lit streets and low crime in central areas. Exercise caution in isolated areas at night, and use public transit or rideshares for added safety.

Vancouver is a safe city. There is a homeless issue and generally people are harmless but there are some mental health issues which makes it unpredictable. This is mainly concentrated in a few pocket areas. Lots of places to visit in the city that is safe, even the areas with homeless people are safe during the day. Just be aware of your surroundings and don’t leave anything valuable in parked cars.

Vancouver is a very safe city for the most part. There are some areas to be careful in, as with any large city. Particularly at night, downtown on Granville St. can be dangerous. There is a significant amount of people experiencing addiction and housing instability in the lower east side (Hastings St.). Some people report having their car broken into but it is never something I have experienced.

100 percent depends are the neighbourhood, but most of the residential neighbours are very safe, I typically try and stick to busy well lite streets when walking late at night. I do use transit alone at night by myself and just am mindful, aware, and don’t wear headphones.

Vancouver is overall a pretty safe city. Exercise caution around the Downtown Eastside neighborhood as there are many homeless and people with addictions and mental illness who may act erratically, but violent incidents are rare.

The downtown east side and Chinatown has a lot of homeless and drug use but it’s not violent. The rest of Vancouver is so safe aside from a lot of bike theft. I feel incredibly safe being here at all hours of the day/night especially in places like kitsilano

Vancouver is safety but the increase of homeless people makes me concerned about being alone sometimes, mainly downtown areas. Tourists places are pretty much safe. Public transportation is safe as well.

There are some more sketchy parts that you should avoid, but that’s a small area compared to the rest of Vancouver. By and large, if you avoid those areas, you are totally safe and don’t have to worry.

Solo travel

I had a great time in Vancouver. Scenic view, great food scenary and culture richness. I felt safe using public transportation and mostly all the time, just need to avoid some areas in downtown. I’m looming forward to showing it around.

Solo travel

Vancouver has a very safe feel, a great transportation system with skytrains and buses throughout most of the Metro Vancouver area. There are many cheap attractions like the countless beaches the city has including Wreck Beach, Jericho Beach, English Bay, Ambleside etc. There are countless trails, areas for camping close by like Whistler and Squamish, a lot of natural beauty.

About Me

I'm Michelle, a Brazilian-Canadian living in Vancouver with my husband since 2016. I used to work in finance, but lately, I've been trying to rediscover myself after feeling a bit lost this past year. I'm hoping to move to a sunnier place as soon as I can, but since that's not possible right now, I'm planning to take a month off to travel solo, explore new countries, and make some new friends.
