Is Thailand safe at night?

Yes, Thailand is generally safe at night. The country is known for its friendly people and vibrant nightlife, and most areas are well-lit and patrolled by police. However, it is still important to take the usual precautions when travelling at night, such as avoiding dark alleys and being aware of your surroundings. It is also recommended to avoid carrying large amounts of cash and to stay in well-lit and populated areas.

Solo travel experience

I did 16 days of solo traveling in Thailand. Felt super safe and people were very kind and friendly. I even walked alone at night and took solo tours. I ate everything. My travel doctor suggested eating street food because it is all fresher and high turnover vs restaurants with huge menus where the food likely isn’t fresh. Thailand was very affordable.

Solo travel experience

Thailand was my first long solo trip (5 weeks) and first solo trip outside of Eruope and I couldn't recommend a better place. Firstly, there are dozens of other solo female travellers or groups willing to adopt you so you will never be alone if you don't want to be. Secondly, it is extremely safe - of course be cautious as you would anywhere else, but I never felt unsafe even walking around at night alone. Finally and most importantly there's so much to see and do whatever your interest so book now! I'd highly recommend Chiang Mai and Khao Sok National Park

Solo travel experience

I love Thailand! Chiang Mai is my happy place, I've been five times and can't wait to get back. I have always felt safe in Thailand. My first trip started in Bangkok, I stayed on Kohsan Road, mainly because I knew it would be really busy and I could wander around at night, but I didn't go to any clubs. I'd go see the sites during the day and come back to home base to listen to live music, have a drink, and people watch. The city was a bit chaotic for me (though I'm happy I went, and may return to see more in the future). I fell in love with Chiang Mai, I stay in the Old City. I've done a few tours to see the sites, but generally just happy popping into temples, bookstores, and little shops. I highly recommend the Monk Chat at Wat Chedi Luang and a cooking class with Thai Farm Cooking School-Chiang Mai-Thailand (delicious food, fun day out of the city, and a nice packable cook book for home). Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Temple is pretty spectacular. I did a sunrise visit and was fortunate to see the monks chanting, which was really powerful). I stayed in Koh Samui on either side of my trip to Koh Phangan. Samui wasn't my favourite, though it could have been the location I stayed, nice hotels but not a lot around. Beach fronts were small and packed so I spent time at the pools. Koh Phangan on the other hand was pretty amazing. I rented a little cabin (not cheap) and spent my days reading, and lazing in my hammock or chilling on the beach. I use Grab in Chiang Mai if I'm going somewhere far, it's like Uber and I've always felt safe.

About Me

Hi everyone! I’m a 28-year-old Thai who lives near Bangkok. MBTI: INTJ Enneagram: 5w4 I love going on day trips around Bangkok with my family and friends. I found that there are many magical places in Bangkok that many people haven’t visited yet. So, it would be my pleasure to share them and spend time there with you. If you want a local who can recommend some great places and awesome activities around Bangkok, I am very pleased to recommend you or be your trip buddy! Besides, I graduated from the faculty of liberal arts in Thai language. If you want a native can teach you some basic Thai, I am very glad to meet you too! My English may be not good enough to communicate with you in all contexts, but I am eager to learn more. 😃

I’m traveling to Thailand in January!! Has anyone taken the train from Bangkok to Chaing Mai?! I’m wondering if it being scenic is worth the 12 hour trip or if I should do a 1.5 hour flight instead?
