Is Chiang Rai safe for solo female travelers?

Chiang Rai is generally safe for solo female travelers. The locals are amiable, and the area is tourist-friendly. Though, like anywhere, it's always a good idea to follow general safety precautions. Stick to busy areas, avoid walking alone at night in deserted areas, and be mindful of your belongings. The crime rate is relatively low, but occasional pickpocketing or scams targeting tourists do occur.

Solo travel

I went to Chiang Rain last year for 3 months as a volunteer. I loved every minute of my time there. I felt super safe all the locals were kind and offered help with translation, rides, they also made sure we were always feed and taken care of.

I went to Chaing Rai for volunteering and stayed for two weeks. It was my unforgettable and special experience and one of the best times in my life. I enjoyed volunteer activities and interactions with local people and the volunteer members. It costed about €1,150 including the flight fees, insurance, living costs, and so on. The time I spent there was amazingly fun and couldn’t be better!

How safe is Chiang Rai for women?

I always leave my scooter unlocked and nothing happens. Girls can hung out safely at night. Chiang Rai is pretty safe, especially around Mae Fah Luang. I’ve been living here for a year and have never lost anything.

It is a smaller, rural city filled with beautiful temples. There are number of other travellers and expats living there as well. I have felt safe in Chiang Rai (and all over Thailand for that matter), as the people are very warm, welcoming and friendly, as one would expect in a predominately Buddhist country.
