Is Chiang Rai good for solo travel?

Safety:

Safety:Safe

Chiang Rai is generally safe for solo female travelers. The locals are amiable, and the area is tourist-friendly. Though, like anywhere, it's always a good idea to follow general safety precautions. Stick to busy areas, avoid walking alone at night in deserted areas, and be mindful of your belongings. The crime rate is relatively low, but occasional pickpocketing or scams targeting tourists do occur.
Transport:

Transport:Easy

Chiang Rai, with its compact city centre, is relatively manageable for solo travelers. There are ample options available ranging from renting bikes to catching local public transportation such as songthaews (shared taxis) and tuk-tuks. However, certain tourist attractions may be far apart, requiring more planning and potentially even a hired driver for the day. The locals are generally friendly and helpful if asked for directions, and most tourist places are already familiar with solo female travelers.
Things to do:

Things to do:Interesting

Chiang Rai boasts an array of unique activities that any solo female traveler would enjoy. This includes visiting distinguished landmarks like the White Temple (Wat Rong Khun) and Blue Temple (Wat Rong Suea Ten) featuring breathtaking architecture and exquisite detail. Further, one could indulge in a relaxing hot spring bath at Huai Mak Liam Hot Spring, or explore the Golden Triangle where the Mekong River meets the Ruak River. A stroll through the vibrant Night Bazaar offers the chance to shop for local arts and crafts, while a visit to the varied local cafes would serve as a calming retreat. However, it doesn't possess as many activities as larger cities, therefore not gaining a full point score.
Food:

Food:Above average

The food in Chiang Rai offers plentiful choices for every visitor. The city showcases a wide variety of Thai specialties including delicious Northern Thai dishes that are hard to find in other parts of the country. Street food stands offer a more authentic taste of Thai cuisine, whereas gourmet restaurants provide innovative fusions and more sophisticated dining experiences. The only aspect keeping this from a full score is the lack of variety of international cuisines.
Budget:

Budget:Affordable

Chiang Rai is fairly budget-friendly for solo female travelers. Accommodation, eating out, and transportation costs are relatively low, especially compared to Western countries. You can live comfortably without breaking your bank. It's also quite easy to find affordable tours and activities. However, keep in mind that prices in tourist areas might be a little higher.

Solo travel experience

I went to Chaing Rai for volunteering and stayed for two weeks. It was my unforgettable and special experience and one of the best times in my life. I enjoyed volunteer activities and interactions with local people and the volunteer members. It costed about €1,150 including the flight fees, insurance, living costs, and so on. The time I spent there was amazingly fun and couldn’t be better!
