It is a smaller, rural city filled with beautiful temples. There are number of other travellers and expats living there as well. I have felt safe in Chiang Rai (and all over Thailand for that matter), as the people are very warm, welcoming and friendly, as one would expect in a predominately Buddhist country.

I went to Chaing Rai for volunteering and stayed for two weeks. It was my unforgettable and special experience and one of the best times in my life. I enjoyed volunteer activities and interactions with local people and the volunteer members. It costed about €1,150 including the flight fees, insurance, living costs, and so on. The time I spent there was amazingly fun and couldn’t be better!
