Safety:Safe

Puerto Morelos has a close-knit community and lower crime rates compared to larger cities, making it generally safe for solo female travelers. However, it is always important to be cautious and aware of your surroundings. While beaches and central tourist areas are well-patrolled and secure, exercise caution during the night. Keep your personal belongings close to you at all times to avoid pickpocketing.

Transport:Easy

Puerto Morelos, is a relatively small town, making it easy to navigate. You will find plenty walking options to reach local attractions, shops, and restaurants. Bicycle rentals are also available for quicker transit. In need of going somewhere further in the area, taxis are readily available. Always be cautious with your belongings while traveling.

Things to do:Interesting

Puerto Morelos offers a wide range of activities for a solo female traveler. It boasts one of the largest barrier reefs and is highly revered by snorkeling and diving enthusiasts. Being less touristy than its neighboring cities Cancun and Playa Del Carmen, it provides a more authentic, calm Mexican vibe with its tranquil seafront, charming town square, and local markets where you can indulge in local cuisine and shopping. Additionally, there are numerous natural parks and cenotes nearby to explore; but also lovely bookstores and wellness offerings such as yoga and spa treatments for rejuvenation. However, do note that it is smaller and less bustling than some may prefer.

Food:Above average

Puerto Morelos, offers a multitude of food options, encompassing everything from traditional Mexican cuisines to international dishes. Unmissable are the local seafood taco stands, and the richly flavorful carnival of tastes offered by locally made moles and salsas. Vegetarians and vegans, however, might find themselves with more limited choices. Despite this, the overall quality, diversity, authenticity, taste, and affordability of food is generally high.

Budget:Moderate

Puerto Morelos strikes a comfortable middle ground when it comes to budget-friendliness. The smaller scale and less touristy vibe mean cheaper costs than places like Cancun, but its increasing popularity may bring slightly higher prices than some off-the-beaten-path locations. Accommodations, eating out, and activities range from budget to mid-range. With careful planning, a trip can be quite manageable and affordable.

Family travel experience

A very safe little town with some very good restaurants and shops. The bookstore is a real highlight, as is the main plaza where on weekend evenings there are shows for the kids and a craft fair to buy keepsakes and gifts.
