Safety:Safe

Puerto Escondido is generally safe for solo female travelers. The locals are friendly and usually willing to help. However, it's important to note that, like anywhere else, certain street smarts should be exercised. Avoid unlit areas after dark and always keep an eye on your personal belongings. Also, despite its relative safety, it's advisable to learn a few key phrases in Spanish for an easier and more comfortable travel experience.

Transport:Easy

Puerto Escondido is quite manageable when it comes to navigation. The town is relatively small and laid-back, and many attractions are within walking distance or a short ride away. However, due to occasional traffic and lack of structured sidewalks in some areas, it might be slightly challenging. Local taxis or beach shuttles are inexpensive and highly available making it a preferred mode of transportation. As a solo female traveler, always make sure to take only reputable taxis especially at night for safety.

Things to do:Interesting

Puerto Escondido is a vibrant town teeming with various activities. It's a haven for surfers due to its internationally acclaimed beaches such as Zicatela. Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the nearby lagoons and waterfalls, while those interested in marine life can partake in tours to see dolphins, turtles, and even whale watching. The town itself is a mix of traditional Mexican culture and a blossoming cosmopolitan vibe with a thriving culinary scene and numerous artisan shops.

Food:Above average

Puerto Escondido offers a rich dining experience with variety stretching from traditional Mexican cuisine to International flavors. While the seafood is always fresh and well-prepared, the area is known, particularly, for its delicious mole and tlayudas. Aesthetic beachfront dining spots further enhance the experience, although not all of them provide the same level of service. However, keep in mind it might lack in terms of fine dining and some cuisines from around the world.

Budget:Affordable

Puerto Escondido is considerably budget-friendly, given the relatively affordable accommodation options, inexpensive local cuisine, and low-cost local transport. However, the cost can increase if you indulge in high-end resorts, restaurants, or pricey water sports.

Couple travel experience

It's super peaceful, very nice for solo or couple travel, and a great escape from the stress of the city. It's a very safe, calm, and beautiful place where you can surf, spend time by the sea, and watch sunsets. You can also easily travel to nearby villages by bus, and they are very affordable.

Solo travel experience

I was just in Puerto Escondido in February and I felt very safe there. I found it to be a really nice seaside town with friendly people. It is a big spot on the map for surfers, so there is a bit of a hippie vibe and there are plenty of tourists.
