Safety:Safe

Bacalar is generally a safe destination for solo female travelers as this quaint small city is known for tight-knit community and peaceful environment. It's a quiet and relaxed place with fewer incidents of crime compared to Mexico's urban centers. However, like all travel destinations, it advises practicing general caution such as not wandering alone at night in unknown areas and maintain awareness of your belongings and surroundings at all times.

Transport:Easy

Bacalar is relatively small which makes it quite accessible to go around on foot. However, bicycles are also commonly used as they offer a more efficient means to explore the town. Taxis are easily accessible for longer distances or when you're carrying luggage. The locals are friendly and often willing to give directions if asked. You should also feel safe moving around but it's always wise to remain cautious.

Things to do:Interesting

Bacalar offers a variety of opportune activities to fill any solo female traveler's itinerary. This picturesque destination is especially known for the stunning Lagoon of Seven Colors, where swimming, kayaking, and sailing are popular. You can also explore historic sites like the Fort of San Felipe, or visit Cenote Azul, a natural sinkhole offering bountiful snorkeling. Local and authentic food is easily discovered at local markets or eateries. You'll find charming streets ideal for leisure walks, friendly locals, and an overall tranquil ambiance that makes solo travel both easy and peaceful.

Food:Above average

Bacalar's gastronomy scene offers a wide range of succulent options. From the iconic Mexican tacos and enchiladas to dishes unique to the Yucatan Peninsula like Poc Chuc, you'll find your craving satisfied. Being so close to the Caribbean, seafood is also abundant with refreshing ceviches and grilled fish readily available. However, you may find the number of international cuisines somewhat limited. Remember to try locally grown fruits such as papayas and pineapples, they're exceptionally delicious in the tropical environment.

Budget:Affordable

Bacalar falls in the mid-range for budget-friendliness. Accommodations have a wide range, from budget-friendly hostels to slightly pricier boutique hotels. Food is generally inexpensive, particularly if you try local markets and street food. Activities such as visiting the Lake of the Seven Colors, exploring cenotes or renting kayaks can also be done on a moderate budget. The main expense would be transportation, especially if you plan to visit more remote areas.

Group travel experience

Very nice city, less touristic than Tulum and Cancùn. You can swim in the blue lagoon and enjoy walking in the very colourful streets. People are super nice. You can find very cheap food if you looking for it. People go outside during the night so a lot of place to hang out
