Safety:Very safe

Trento is known for its low crime rates and is hence fairly safe for solo female travelers. The locals are friendly and generally helpful. However like any tourist destination, caution must be taken especially during nights and in isolated areas. Ensure you have the emergency numbers saved and always keep the address and contact number of your accommodation handy.

Transport:Easy

Trento's city size is relatively compact, making it fairly easy to navigate your way around. Main attractions, shops, and eateries are within walking distance from each other, thus you can explore most of the city on foot. However, there are also plenty of public transport options, including buses and trains for longer journeys or day trips, as well as bicycle hire services if you prefer to cycle. Though, it might be a bit challenging to understand the public transportation system if you're not familiar with the language.

Things to do:Interesting

Trento, is full of rich history and cultural experiences. Significant points of interest include the Renaissance-style Piazza Duomo, the Buonconsiglio Castle Museum detailing regional art and history, and the prominent Science Museum. The location is also perfect for nature-lovers, offering stunning views of the Alps and beautiful hikes near the city. A bit off the beaten path, it's an excellent spot for solo female travelers looking for a unique, less crowded Italian getaway. However, compared to larger cities, it may have fewer activities and events available.

Food:Above average

Trento offers a wonderful gastronomic experience with a variety of tasty dishes rooted in both Italian and Austro-Hungarian traditions. Famous for its wines, Trento also offers an array of delectable local cheeses, meats, and pastas, making it a food-lover's paradise. The food is generally fresh and locally-sourced with a high standard of quality. However, it slightly lacks in terms of international cuisine options.

Budget:Moderate

Trento has a moderate level of affordability. Accommodation can be relatively reasonably priced, especially outside of peak season. Food and drink costs may fluctyate with some restaurants being more expensive than others, but there are plenty of affordable and delicious options available. Public transportation and sightseeing are also reasonably priced. However, expect higher prices if you plan on skiing or enjoying other pricier tourist activities.

Is Trento worth visiting?

Local tips

Being a small city, Trento is safe both during the day and at night, although you shall avoid staying in places near the train station. The city center is easy walkable, but if you have enough time you should definitely go for a day trip in the mountains nearby or even in the Dolomites. if you’re coming during Christmas time, you must visit the Christmas Markets in the city center. Trento is also a great historical city with many museums worth visiting for: go to Buonconsiglio Castle and “MuSe”. If you want to try traditional food you should go to the restaurant Forst right in the city center, try canederli or polenta with meat!
