Is Bari good for solo travel?

Safety:

Safety:Safe

Bari typically offers a friendly and welcoming environment for solo female travelers. The locals are often quite helpful and happy to engage with visitors. Street crime such as pickpocketing may occur, especially in crowded tourist areas, but violent crime is relatively rare. A good strategy is to blend in as much as possible, avoid obvious displays of wealth and remain vigilant about your surroundings.
Transport:

Transport:Easy

Quite manageable to navigate within Bari. The city areas are well-connected, making it possible to explore most tourist sites on foot. The public transportation system includes buses and metro lines, and taxis are also readily available. Bike rental services are also offered for those who prefer cycling. Although generally safe for travel, like other cities, it is necessary to maintain alertness. Some knowledge of basic Italian may enhance the experience as not everyone is fluent in English.

Couple travel experience

I just simply fell in love with this city. Many people don’t stay here long, because they use it as a stop for their trip around Puglia. But let me tell you, I felt so at home. And although Bari is known as a rather dangerous city I never felt unsafe, I often walked home alone in the middle of the night (I stayed in the city center, just fyi)I could probably write a full food guide, but you must try Frulez, and Panzerotti & Focaccia at Magda. And so many cute vintage shops, Piattini D’avanguardia, Eroi, Prinz Zaum etc etc. Also: If you’re there in November/December: Check out the Bari International Gender Film Festival!<3

Group travel experience

Our stay in Bari is pretty short as we expect to take the ferry soon to Greece but it was overall a good experience :) The beach was nice, the people were welcoming and the coffee great ! I really appreciated the surroundings also.

Solo travel experience

Discovering the area of Puglia was a great experience. Extremely recommended for solo travellers. Food is amazing and people are exceptional. I think my trip was 50% tourist and 50% local. It was one of the best experiences in Italy.

Family travel experience

I was in Bari with my daughter and I felt safe. The old town of Bari is very beautiful, though small. Overall, it's not an exceptionally charming city, but it's quite decent and definitely a great starting point. We stayed in a district located between the station and the old town, and everything was fine there. As is tradition in Italy, the areas directly around the station are the least pleasant.

Solo travel experience

Bari itself was nothing special, but the surrounding towns were wonderful. I recommend Monopoli, Polignano a Mare, Matera, Alberobello, Locorotondo, Trani. I traveled alone and felt safe, but I didn't walk around alone after dark, except for the first day in Bari. I focused on intensive sightseeing.

Solo travel experience

Bari was not my favorite destination. It's a big city, located on the coast, so you constantly inhale exhaust fumes. I was staying a bit outside of the city, but I could still hear the noise of cars from the nearby highway. On the positive side, there were good bus and train connections for exploring other parts of Italy. I came back earlier than planned because it was not quite the right place for me. I prefer more greenery. As for safety, I didn't feel bad, I traveled everywhere on foot or used public transport.

Solo travel experience

I went to Bari for a week for my first solo trip and I definitely recommend this place if you want to relax on the beach and explore a bit of the area. I did not encounter arrogant comments or unfriendly people at any time. I walked around the city alone at night a few times and never felt uncomfortable. The only challenge was finding a free table, as it was very crowded everywhere and I had to wait for a place.

I always felt very safe in Bari. The city is know to be dangerous on some guides on the internet, but after living there for 8 months, I never experienced any danger. Walking home alone at night never felt like a problem for me. I stayed in the city center, just fyi

Bari is a really safe place, only in the evening in some areas you may be the only person walking and you may feel uncomfortable but for the rest you will be immediately welcomed by everyone and you will feel at home, avoid the "libertà" neighborhood
