Safety:Safe

Zakynthos is generally a safe destination for solo female travelers. Like any travel location, it's important to stay alert and aware of your surroundings. However, locals are generally friendly and willing to help. Avoid secluded areas during late hours and always be wary of your belongings. Greek people are known for their hospitality and tourist areas are frequently patrolled by local police, which adds to the safety of the place.

Transport:Easy

Zakynthos is quite traveler-friendly with well-established public transportation system including buses, taxis, and ferries, making navigation simple. However, schedules can be irregular and much of the island's beauty is found off the beaten path, making car rentals or bike hire handy for deeper exploration.

Things to do:Interesting

Zakynthos, offers a myriad of interesting activities for solo female travelers. Its natural beauty is stunning, from the mesmerizing Blue Caves to Shipwreck Beach, one of the most famous beaches in Greece. Enjoy exhilarating water sports or simply soak up the sun. Zakynthos is also rich with history; don't miss the chance to explore the Byzantine Museum, or the idyllic villages in the mountains. The local food scene, with its tavernas offering traditional Greek cuisine, in addition to the friendly locals, add to the charm of this destination. However, its nightlife can be quite vibrant, which might not be everyone's cup of tea.

Food:Excellent

The island of Zakynthos offers a delectable variety of Greek cuisine. Fresh seafood is readily available, as well as dishes made with locally grown vegetables and olives. Traditional Greek staples like moussaka and souvlaki can be found everywhere, and the island is known for its flavorful honey and local wine. Dining in Zakynthos ranges from casual eat-in gyro shops to upscale venues that serve gourmet Mediterranean fare. You also won't want to miss the opportunity to try Ladotyri, a unique local cheese. The food scene is very diverse and suitable for different types of foodies. However, the only complaint might be that it lacks a bit in terms of international cuisine.

Budget:Moderate

Zakynthos has a moderate cost in terms of expenses, falling in the mid-range offering both budget-friendly and costly options. Accommodation can be cheaper compared to other parts of Greece, especially if you book outside the peak tourist season. Dining out can vary a lot, but there are many local tavernas or street food options which are quite affordable. Major attractions and activities like visiting the Shipwreck Beach or the Blue Caves are relatively inexpensive but can add up if you do multiple activities a day. However, daily expenses like transportation and food can be budgeted effectively with careful planning.

Is Zakynthos worth visiting?

Couple travel experience

We loved Zakynthos! The beautiful clear water and lovely little beaches. The best day was when we hired a little boat, we went to ‘shipwreck beach’ which if you’re not experienced in a boat and it’s not a very clear day then I wouldn’t say it’s worth it. That side of the island isn’t as sheltered and the bay was so full of huge tour boats creating waves and you’re no longer allowed to go on the beach itself. We stayed around the north east side of the island after that it was so much calmer and we just anchored up at loads of little secluded spots and beaches and swan in the clear water and Swam to Pelagaki beach which we loved! It has a lovely little cafe at the top of some steps and you can order food on the beach and have it sent down. The food is a very good price for on the beach and portions are very big. We hired a car while there which I think is necessary if you want to explore the island and stay out of the main towns which I would advise. We used Euro Alfa and they were very friendly, waited for us with our delayed flight and no extra add on when you arrive. Overall a lovely trip!

I was there for just 2 days, but I took a full day tour round the island and it was beautiful 😍, really breathtaking and worth the trip, loved every minute, only downside was the sun, it was so freaking hot, you'd definitely need a sunglass, hat or umbrella for the Sumner trip.
