How safe is Santorini?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Santorini, is generally safe, even at night. The crime rate is relatively low and the island is filled with welcoming and friendly locals. Popular areas like Fira and Oia are well lit and typically busy until late, providing a sense of security. Switchback roads and steps can be a bit tricky in the dark though, so conflict can be best avoided by staying mostly in populated areas at night and being aware of your surroundings.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Very safe

Santorini's public transportation system, primarily its buses, are widely regarded as reliable and safe. Buses are timely, efficient, and usually crowded with both locals and tourists. The drivers are professional and the routes cover a large portion of the island, including major sites. However, it can get quite crowded during peak seasons which may cause a bit of discomfort but overall, it does not generally pose a safety concern.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Santorini is generally a very safe place to travel as a solo female traveler. Street harassment is relatively low compared to other global locations. The locals are typically friendly and respectful, appreciating the island's popularity amongst tourists. Nevertheless, like anywhere, it is advisable to stay alert and cautious, especially in crowded areas or during late nights.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Santorini typically has a good reputation when it comes to safety. Petty crimes like pick-pocketing or purse snatching are not prevalent. However, like any other tourist destinations, it is always wise to stay vigilant, keep your valuables safe and be aware of your surroundings to avoid any unwanted incidents.

Solo travel

My stay in Santorini was so nice and I felt very safe. The locals were nice too. The hostel I stayed in was in Fira, but I spent most of my time in the kamari beach. The food was great and I recommend going to oia for the sunset

Solo travel

Crowds (I visited off-season, so it's scary to think about how it is during the peak season), the food is much worse than on other Greek islands, prices are also much higher, not many places to explore, and the beaches are quite average. I have visited several different places in Greece, and I regret those few days in Santorini.

Solo travel

In my opinion, a postcard from Greece takes your breath away with its atmospheric white towns. The island, in my opinion, is more for sightseeing and walking than for beach activities. The beaches here are not particularly impressive; there are not many places with turquoise waters. And, in my opinion, it is the least Greek of all the islands.

Couple travel

I did not have high expectations when it came to Santorini. I was afraid that it would be heavily overhyped. But I completely fell in love with it. We stayed in the town of Fira, which is the capital of the island and an ideal base. It has excellent bus connections from the airport, and from here you can easily reach any attraction on the island. On the first day we walked all around Fira, and compared to other towns that we visited on the island, it is really bustling and lots of things are happening there. I recommend walking from Fira to the town of Imerovigli. The sunset is beautiful. The next day we spent in Oia. We also visited Red Beach and Perissa Beach for a bit of sunbathing.

Solo travel

I went for two nights/three days, but I wouldn't bother going back there again. This place is definitely too small, there is nothing to do there, and the number of tourists is so great that moving around the cities is real hell.

Santorini is very tourist-oriented and crowded. It's overwhelming. When cruise ships arrive, you literally feel like they're all packed like sardines. However, it was very beautiful there, but also very expensive, especially the accommodation and food. I spent double the amount in 2 days on Santorini compared to my 5 days in Athens.

Solo travel

I loved Santorini - I hiked from Fira to Oia and took a boat trip to the volcano, hot springs, and then watched the sunset. I felt very safe.

Solo travel

Santorini is beautiful, but very crowded. Despite this, I did a walking trek from Fira to Oia (about 5-6 hours) and it was stunning. There were hardly any people on the trails, and the views were breathtaking.

Solo travel

Santorini was a disappointment, as it seemed like a less authentic place, too crowded with cruise ships, but it was very, very beautiful. I recommend getting up early to see Oia and avoid Fira/Oia during the day.
