I felt safe, I spent under 25 euros a day. Food was amazing. I went with tour so my experience was limited yet I highly recommend. Every person I've encountered seems to understand english. It is refreshing walking in the Aristoteles square and trying greek pastries thereby.

Thessaloniki is such a beautiful city. The people are so nice and helpful, very social compared to where I come from. There is a lot of catcalling unfortunately, men of all age shouting and whistling, we were approached a few times too but it was handled with a simple story of telling that we're traveling with a man:’) I definitely recommend visiting Halkidiki; rent a car or take the bus! Also Ano Poli is worth it, the cafes and general vibe there made me want to stay there forever. There are a lot of places to eat at, I suggest just walking around and sitting down somewhere that looks...
Posted: May 26, 2025It is a really beautiful city which many different places. I had a really nice time and you get used to the city very fast. However after a few days it can get a little boring, since the city is not too big.

Thessaloniki is the biggest cultural city of northern Greece and here is what I did and how I felt there during my 3 nights stay: ▪︎ It was overall safe, but being pretty crowded during that period I felt like I have to be more alert. There are also a couple neighbourhoods that you would want to avoid as a solo traveler, but again, I didn't have any bad experience whatsoever. ▪︎ I did some self exploring during the first day, just wondering around the streets and parks, which felt quite idyllic during sunset 🌇 ▪︎ Next two days I had some activities booked in advance, such as day trips to...

My friend and I stayed for two days in Thessaloniki. The food was quite tasty and affordable. People were not rude and it was a city where we felt safe. We visited the historical buildings and the castle of the city with our friends who guided and hosted us. We watched the city from the top and I recommend that you definitely watch the sunset here. ☀️☀️

Thessaloniki is overall a safe city. There ate petty crimes happening like in everything big city. As long as you stay around the center you'll be safe even as a solo traveller since it's busy. Be careful of pickpockets in street/flea markets and in public transportation.
Posted: January 6, 2026There are regions such us the city center and the harbor that are pretty safe both in day and night. However while night you have to be extremely careful bc there are many drunk people in the streets. Also must always check on your bags while using public transportation because of the pickpockets (there are not so many but... better safe than sorry:)). But overall I wouldn't say that Thessaloniki is a dangerous town. You just have to be careful at crowded places and small streets at night

Thessaloniki is a safe city ! The only area you should avoid at night is “Bardaris” and it’s the west side of the center !! Overall I haven’t experienced anything in my time here! I’m 6 years in Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki in most parts is 100% safe all day and night long . There are certain places you should avoid walking by or staying because there are “ghettos” near the main bus station and train station . There is also a neighbourhood you should avoid at any cost and I’m not even joking it’s called Dendropotamos . Otherwise the centre of the city, Aristotelous square , Saint Sophia , Navarinou Square and everything east and north from that are very safe to go and live . There are also west side districts that are great like ilioupoli and euosmos but you should drive there. Also , Thessaloniki...

I have never had an issue in Thessaloniki. We all know that men are everywhere and we will never escape comments and some harassment. But the likelihood in Thessaloniki seems quite low. I often walk/run around the city centre late at night and have had no issues.

Hellooo, my name is Alexandra and until end if may I'll be with my girlfriend and our cat in Thessaloniki. We've hosted many people in the past and we loved it each time. I'm originally from Thessaloniki so I'm gonna bombard you with random facts about the city (and not only). I love all forms of art and talking about science (don't get me started about microbiome). I'm finishings my studies in being a dietician. I'm doing my internship now at a public hospital. Also, I deeply believe in solidarity and community. I've been volunteering at a social kitchen the past 4 years. We cooks with homeless people on the street and distribute free food. I'll love to go there together.
