Normally in the center of Thessaloniki is pretty safe, some neighbourhoods are not that safe though. Mostly on the west side. I wouldn't recommend wearing headphones or listening to music really loud without the understanding of your surroundings especially on the night. Sometimes there could be some catcalling from guys in the street but it's not something dangerous or something you should be afraid of.
Posted: November 24, 2024Thessaloniki is a safe and very welcoming city, in general. There are several places you'd better avoid walking alone, mostly in the dark. As always and everywhere, you should take care of your personal belongings. Mostly in these places mentioned above but also some popular areas, chanves being harassed (and then being told that they are just "flirting") (to be honest, mostly not by Greek guys) always exist.
Posted: October 31, 2024Thessaloniki is kind of safe. Unfortunately like so many other cities you must watch for pickpockets, walking alone at night depending on the area and sexual harassment also depending on the area and the time of the day

Thessaloniki is my hometown, so I feel a bit safer here than I would if it were my first time visiting. Overall, it can be a bit unsafe for girls, but I still recommend it for solo travel as long as you're careful.
Posted: August 28, 2024Thessaloniki is a safe place for people that have good awareness of their surroundings. In the morning is pretty easy and you don’t have to be worried by walking around on your own. At night there are some streets that u should have your eyes open, but I would advise to not wandering around at night alone for sure

As a local there I haven't experienced any issues with safety.Greece is safe but the crime level around doesn't let you feel 100% sure that nothing will happen. I was never robbed or had my house broke in but its a mindset you build and a feeling of constant fear you may expect when you live alone. I was followed but everyone is gonna help as people are aware of this issue.

The city is generally safe and the city centre is walkable. You have to take into consideration pickpocketing especially in bus stops and crowded places. Walking in the west side of the centre can be unsafe especially at night, the train station is sketchy as well. The only ways of transportation is buses, taxi, walking and renting bikes. There is only one bus at night that goes through the central bus station - train station - centre - airport but no other public transport at night. If you stay there choose to stay in the city centre or the east side of the city and be alert walking alone at night. You can stay safe and have a good trip there just try to stay alert especially at night.

Thessaloniki is a safe city in general. The city centre there are always people around. The west areas of the city are not safe neither at night or the morning. If you search for a stay probably centre and eastward is a better solution.
Posted: April 1, 2024The center of Thessaloniki is pretty safe. These days is more filled with immigrants but in general they mind their own business. For sure avoiding certain dark alleys is recommended but I personally haven't experienced any bad behavior at all, even in dark alleys

My friend and I stayed for two days in Thessaloniki. The food was quite tasty and affordable. People were not rude and it was a city where we felt safe. We visited the historical buildings and the castle of the city with our friends who guided and hosted us. We watched the city from the top and I recommend that you definitely watch the sunset here. ☀️☀️
