I went to Athene and Santorini with my sister. In Athene we aten at a restaurant called Little Cook. It has a new theme evers year. When we went it was Alice in wonderland. We did a Greek cooking class. And saw all the sights. Going to Santorini they lost my sisters suitcase. It returned one day before we went home. We went with a Greek airplane and they regularly loose luggage. Buying stuff in Santorini is extensive. So pack smart. In case they loose yours. So you won't have to buy new things. We where in Fira. Nightlive was great. In Athene we slept in the centre but there was hardly any nightlife.
Posted: July 6, 2024Experienced: April, 2022I feel like Greece is a pretty safe place to travel as a solo female. I never felt unsafe. Every now and then you got some people come up and ask you for money but after not showing interest, they leave. I found food was quite expensive but they may be because I was staying in touristy areas. I spent about $1000 per week and that included transport and food. All accommodation was booked prior to arriving.
Posted: July 6, 2024So first things first, Greece was beautiful, absolutely stunning, some of the best beaches I've seen in my entire life. Weather was perfect and the food was absolutely delicious. But things you should know. Greece is extremely segregated. Like Japan, there are Greek only bars in Greece and on the islands especially this can mean it is not possible to experience the nightlife at all if you are not travelling with someone Greek. Greece also has an aggressive tourist pricing, it is about 10x what a Greek person would pay, which makes Greece an expensive country to visit in Europe. Greece is also the country I have felt least safe travelling alone as a woman. Whilst it is a really fun place to travel with friends and family, when you are alone it is when you notice how patriarchal the country is and there's a lot of unwanted touching, noone stops the men, not even the Greek women. It's vile. I planned to go to Turkey after Greece and I almost didn't go because I had always heard that Turkey was a difficult country to travel solo as a woman and I had really reached my limit with Greece. I went to Turkey in the end, and Turkey was really, really nice, I found people to be generally really respectful, helpful, loved it. For context I have visited Morocco, Turkey, South Africa, Paris, and Greece was by far the worst to solo travel as a woman it was an actually hostile environment. That being said I met absolutely lovely women who were also travelling there and I did end up having a really nice time. Also if you go to Crete, go it's stunning, and really fun, but don't stay in Chania, it's a mafia town. Just FYI.
Posted: June 2, 2024Experienced: April, 2023While traveling Greece with my family, we saw a mixture of the cities, islands, and countryside. One of the highlights was going to Meteora, where we saw the monasteries which have been built on top of rocks! I also enjoyed visiting the archaeological sites, such as the Corinth temple, the Parthenon, and the ancient land of Olympus. Greece has a rich history with exceptional food! I loved the moussaka, dolmades, and souvlaki.

I felt very safe in Greece. I was there on a holiday trip with my family, and we went to Paros, Naxos & Athen. It was absolutely stunning and amazing. The food is great, and the atmosphere is great. I even went out on nights alone, and I felt so safe:)
Posted: April 16, 2024Feel really safe in every places. Recommendation to visit the Islands. The food is too expensive for the quality, as in Italy. Locals are really friendly, we enjoyed to stay in homestay. You can travel by boat easily.
Posted: March 29, 2024I travelled to Greece in 2020 and the experience was amazing. I travelled with a group and experience many different areas and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I would definitely go back and visit some of the other islands that I did not get to see. I was a bit disappointed to see how they live where their homes were, but overall it was a great experience, the tourist that I went on were fantastic. I got to meet a lot of wonderful people and experience the culture of Greece.
Posted: March 16, 2024First solo travel experience and it was great. Felt safe the entire time both in Athens and the islands (Naxos, Santorini, Crete) Was definitely more cautious and aware of my surroundings in Athens and didn't stay out late after dark, but would have felt safe doing so. Islands felt 100% safe, no concerns at all. People everywhere were super friendly and helpful and speak English so no language barrier if you are a native English speaker. Got scammed on transportation from ferry terminal to hotel on Santorini so definitely arrange transportation to your lodging facility before hand. Overall trip was 10/10!
Posted: February 15, 2024Experienced: May, 2022I was in Greece in July on my own - first 2 days in Athens, then a cheap flight to Santorini. I highly recommend it. It was hot, but amazing. Santorini is a small island; you can rent a scooter and go around the island in 1-2 days. I don't recommend staying in Oia or Thira, as the prices are high and there are lots of people. I stayed in Perissa and it was great. Overall, Greece pleasantly surprised me and I definitely want to go back there, even if just for the food.

Greece can be safe in some villages or islands but the capital (Athens) the place you have to be aware the most. There’s a lot of pickpockets and can get dangerous at night walking alone. Depends where you visit I advise to always research the place you go online! Stay safe :)

Greece is a safe country. Of course, there are areas where you could potentially be robbed, but there's no need to avoid the entire country. You should be particularly cautious in the metro and on buses with your personal belongings. Also, keep in mind that if something unfortunate happens, it's not always the fault of the Greeks; there are people from almost all nationalities living here. Despite these precautions, you can enjoy a country with sun nearly all year round, great weather, numerous cultural monuments, and of course, the sea.
