Walk up and down as many streets as possible in Plaka. Enjoy the many cafes and eateries. Take in the sights. And smile at the friendly locals and fellow travellers. Have a wonderful time in this beautiful and historical city!

I had a great time! Touristy but not overwhelming. More expensive than the other Sporades islands but with loads to see. I recommend a tour with a boat to the outside of the island, a visit to the Monastery and you can definitely get cheaper food if you look. Always more expensive options but everywhere I ate it was great. Good public transport if you don't want to rent something. Very clean waters and lovely people!!
Posted: September 8, 2024Experienced: June, 2024I live in Athens now and have been for the last months. I visited the acropolis and it was so nice. It was free entry bc I’m 22 which was really good. The people are nice and the food are great. They have a lot of different rooftop bars also around monastiraki. I would recommend MS rooftop, hyper, A for Athens and 360 rooftop bar.

Visited Greece in the last week of May. Since I went there in the summer, it was quite hot, but the overall experience was worth it. Due to limited time, I only visited Athens and Santorini, and I witnessed one of the most beautiful sunsets of my life at the Acropolis in Athens. I traveled solo, and Greece felt pretty safe, I even met other female solo travelers. I have visited some other countries as well, but Greece tops the list when it comes to great food. I prefer budget traveling, and Greece was one of the most economical countries I have visited so far, I spent around 200 pounds, including hostels, food, the Acropolis ticket, and transportation. The transportation system in Athens is pretty smooth, and if you are a student, you can get a student discount. However, Santorini's public transport is limited, with each trip costing around 2 pounds. The buses have a fixed schedule and only go to specific routes, so if you miss one, you might have to wait more than 30 minutes for the next. If you want to explore Santorini, it's better to have your own transport, or you can rent cars, bikes, etc. Overall, if you want to visit Greece as a solo traveler, I would highly recommend it. I hope you have a great time in Greece, just as I did. Good luck! 🫶
Posted: August 29, 2024Lindos was a family trip and we all felt very safe in the area. It has cute cobbled square with lots of shops, bars and restaurants. They have boat excursions where dolphins were seen and it was value for money!

My friend and I stayed for two days in Thessaloniki. The food was quite tasty and affordable. People were not rude and it was a city where we felt safe. We visited the historical buildings and the castle of the city with our friends who guided and hosted us. We watched the city from the top and I recommend that you definitely watch the sunset here. ☀️☀️

I attended a week-long training here. It was a student club event and we traveled all over the city together. The area called the old city was very beautiful. The food was very tasty and very affordable. A city where you can have more fun when you are in a group. 🫶🏻

I had great experiences with the locals looking out for me as a solo traveller. I had a few occasions where I needed help with my vehicle and medical issues, and the locals were friendly and couldn't have been more accommodating. If you are looking for an authentic experience, skip the main strip in Sidari as it is a British tourist attraction. However, it was very busy in the evening and felt safe for going out at night alone. For a quieter experience and nicer restaurants, go to the area near Canal D'Amour. I had the best views and breakfast on my wat up to Porto Timoni Beach at Anafoufou Restaurant. I did not have much of a budget, but my meals out ranged from €3-€20. A small gyros cost €3, and the nicest restaurant cost €20 for a generous main meal, a signature non alcoholic cocktail, and another non alcoholic beverage. I stayed in Peroulades at a lovely authentic villa, Villa De Loulia, owned by Lukia. It was beautifully styled and 10 minutes walk from the best sunset and blue waters in Corfu at Loggas beach. I used taxis for the first 2 days to get to Sidari for €10 per ride. However, they were not always available. I hired a buggy and then a quad for €90 a day from Sidari Rentals. It is much cheaper to rent a car at €50 per day but I was not organised enough and it was peak tourist season. The roads are a lot quieter in the North of the island and didn't have to worry too much about traffic rules, junctions, roundabouts etc, as a first time driver on the right in a foreign country. I visited
Posted: August 17, 2024Experienced: July, 2024I felt safe, it was a very good experience overall. The island is not too big, so you can be satisfied after a week, but still be able to come back and discover more. It’s really pretty and you should visit the old part.

I went solo to Athens but met amazing friends while there. People are friendly and welcoming and generally feels safe. I stayed in an Airbnb in the city and was able to find grocery, a gym, the metro, bars, and bookstores all within walking distance. I met up with some other solo travelers to explore the city and go on some historic guided tours. Overall my experience was life changing and I would highly recommend Athens to everyone.

Galatsi is an area which might be outside of the center but it is not that fat away as well. It has more the sense of the neighborhood and of course, there is no place that can grant total safety, but I would say it is pretty safe. There are always people around and also has the big street Leoforos, which makes it easier to walk alone at night.
Posted: September 10, 2024Athens is not safe for solo travellers. Especially the Athens center. If you want to visit Athens, choose to live in the north like Kifisia or Marousi where you can easily take the green metro line and visit the center of the Athens during the day and not the night hours.

I'm dying to explore new countries and learn about cultures. My favorite is mountain climbing next to waterfalls and swimming in the sea at sunset :)) My goal is to see the northern lights up close🤪

Athens is very safe for you. Best kept secret of locals is book a room in Piraeus Pasalimani or Kastella area which is super instead of Athens. The seabreeze and restaurants is more than worth it. Visit the Archeological Museum, the ancient walls of Pericles

Hello ladies, I hope you are doing all well! As an Athens_Greece resident, I want to tell that many places are safe to hang out, though greeks can do the cat call in specific areas. Definitely take care of your personal belongings on public transportation

Yes, Athens is worth visiting. It is an amazing city that if full of vibrant culture, thousands of years of history, delicious food, and best of all- wonderful and friendly people. Overall I believe its safe for female travellers, although I wouldnt recommend wandering around any dark alleys or visiting omonoia square at night beyond the metro station area. Its best to stay within the crowded places. Always keep your bag infront of you and mind your belongings specially in the metro station. You must try the local food, like souvlaki or gyros you can find outside Monastiraki station (O Thanasis) where you can also try other local food like, saganaki, tzatziki, kebab, mousaka. If you want ice cream I recomment Da Vinci. You can try local sweets at Psiri area close to Monastiraki, walking distance. You can also drink coffee or drinks at night in one of the many coffee-bars that have a terrasse enjoying the view of Acropolis. Places to visit such as sites and monuments, are the Parthenon temple, the Ancient Agora and the temple of Hephaestus, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Zappeion Mansion (Athens' emblematic conference and exhibition center), the so-called Athenian Trilogy (consisting of the University of Athens Academy, and the National Library) as well as the Panathenaic Stadium, also known as Kallimarmaro (home of the first modern Olympic Games). I would also recommend talking a walk around the places monastiraki, Thisio, Plaka and all the way to Acropolis metro station. These places is where alot of locals also like to visit. I would say that Athens is more affordable to visit than the Greek islands. You have many choices and prices range accordingly to your needs. The metro (subway) is very convenient to use and thats what you pretty much need to go around and explore the city. I would recommend to stay close to the city centre to be close to everything.
Posted: October 12, 2023There are many places to visit in Athens or around Athens (suburbs, Greek Riviera, Sounio, etc). There are also many museums! Of course, you need to see the Acropolis (which is also a museum), the National Gallery, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, and many others. You must try moussaka, pastitsio, fried zucchini and eggplants, gyros, souvlaki, pastries, loukoumades, galaktompoureko and many others. Ask a local resident where to eat well! Don't go to the crowded tourist area if you want to eat really well. Visit nearby islands such as Spetses, Hydra, Aegina.
