I had a good time in Romania. I didn’t always feel very safe because of the many abandoned buildings, even in the center. But I saw a lot of police around. It’s a cheap country, public transport worked well, and even if there weren’t many activities, I still enjoyed a couple of days. I’d recommend it for a low-cost short trip.

Bucharest gets a bad rap online but whilst it's not an amazing destination in itself, it can actually be a really pleasant base for the rest of Romania. There's not a lot of obvious attractions but if you look a little off the beaten path, take day trips out or even explore the more "free range" musuems there's actually plenty to do. The Old Town is cheesy but has some genuinely great nightlife nestled near with some pretty architecture too. My top tips would be to check out the fascinating...
Posted: April 25, 2025Experienced: March, 2025Even though I was with a group (we were 4 girls), at night we did not feel very safe with drunk men bothering us and asking to stay with them. The food is not bad but there are not many options for vegetarians. We stayed in a very comfortable b&b and the price was reasonable. We spent around 200 euros for a total of 4 days between food and activities. We went to the famous Bucharest thermal baths and visited the city where the presumed Dracula lived.

I feel Bucharest is actually safer than a lot of capitals in western Europe, I rarely feel unsafe at night, especially in my neighborhood. But I hope I'm not just biased because I'm used to the culture. Maybe the old center and Piata Unirii are the places that i would say are the sketchiest.
Posted: April 11, 2026In my experience, Romania feels very safe. I live in Bucharest and was out on the streets between 2 AM and 4 AM , no one approached me, and the police presence is reassuring. Romanians are generally cautious, and most of the men here are pretty harmless 😄
Posted: March 22, 2026Bucharest is pretty much a safe city but depending on where you’re going it can change. Personally I didn’t had anything happened to me but I know some stories where some of my friends did not felt safe but thankfully nothing happened to them. In most areas Bucharest is a safe city especially in the tourist areas.

wanting to discover new places through the knowledge and warmth of locals, to connect with people from different cultures and also trying to travel sustainably and without spending too much money 🍊 my love for adventure really began in my semester of erasmus in Thessaloniki (forever grateful for this experience), period in which i travelled to 6 countries with my friends and developed a great way of interacting with people and both learning about their culture and having fun, which gave me and still gives me a lot of meaning ⭐️ happy to be anywhere doing anything meeting people!!! strangers are friends you haven't met yet
