Out of all the cities I've traveled to, Bucharest definately is one of the safest. Of course, depending on the hour and aria you're walking around there might be some sketchy corners, but I think that's to be expected from a capital city with loads of different people in it. Nevertheless, I would feel pretty safe traveling alone as a female in Bucharest.
Posted: June 3, 2025Bucharest is pretty safe. You don't have to worry about anything. Even staying out till late at night is quite safe and walking alone at night is pretty safe. Petty crime is everywhere in the world so you can't rule that out anywhere.
Posted: May 25, 2025If you know how to ignore people then I believe it’s quite safe. There might be people coming up to you but if you act as if they don’t exist. I mean no smile, no eye contact, nothing. Then you will be fine.

It's not one of the most dangerous cities in the world, depends of the zone you re in and what neighborhood you want to explore. It's good to be in a grup and not leave your stuff unattended. 5/10 I would say.
Posted: May 16, 2025Overall it's not an unsafe city :)) but i can't say this means that it's necessarily a safe city. The changes to experience something unpleasant here are pretty low, but you need to be a little more careful than you'd be in general just to make sure that you're safe
Posted: May 13, 2025Bucharest is fairly safe. However, especially at night I advise everyone to be wary of their surroundings and to keep a low profile, especially if you don’t speak or look romanian. It is unfortunately the sad reality that internationals are way more likely to be hassled or harassed

I had a good time in Romania. I didn’t always feel very safe because of the many abandoned buildings, even in the center. But I saw a lot of police around. It’s a cheap country, public transport worked well, and even if there weren’t many activities, I still enjoyed a couple of days. I’d recommend it for a low-cost short trip.

Bucharest gets a bad rap online but whilst it's not an amazing destination in itself, it can actually be a really pleasant base for the rest of Romania. There's not a lot of obvious attractions but if you look a little off the beaten path, take day trips out or even explore the more "free range" musuems there's actually plenty to do. The Old Town is cheesy but has some genuinely great nightlife nestled near with some pretty architecture too. My top tips would be to check out the fascinating contrast of Vacaresti national park and take the "ghosts and folklore" walking tour through the city.
