Fairly ok, even after dark. You have to mind your business and seem confident, but overall quite ok. I even live right across the train station and there are a lot of weird people, but they are chill most of the time. Like if a homeless person would be peeing and I would have to cross he would apologise most of the time for doing that.

Bucharest is pretty save although it may seem otherwise. There are some areas where you can meet homeless people and beggars, but my experience and experience of my closest friends is all right, I didn’t have any situations dangerous for me.

I find Bucharest to be quite safe. I walk around the city comfortably, even at night in central areas. Like any big city, you need to be a bit careful with your belongings, but overall, I feel very at ease here.
Posted: May 1, 2025I would say that as long as you are blending in you are safe in the city centre both at night and in day time. Be cautious over neighbourhoods such as : Ferentari, Rahova, Pantelimon, Colentina, Berceni
Posted: April 22, 2025I would say that overall, Bucharest is a safe place except maybe a few places? I wouldn't walk alone in the old city centre at night. Of course, being a woman just makes things harder, but staying here for a year, I wouldn't say I feel too worried about anything.

it really depends on the area you are, some areas are very safe and walking down the street in the middle of the night is no problem (my neighbourhood is like that) but the city center can get scary sometimes. alcoholics are a problem, nit necesarilly homeless ones. there are no stray animals except for a few cats.
Posted: March 23, 2025It s kind of safe but not fully. I will not walk alone again because I have the feeling that somebody is behind me at night. The stores are safe but you need to take care of your bags and money. It s a great place but people ruined it.

I feel that overall, Bucharest is safe, but you should be aware if your belongings and don't leave your phone random on the ground in the old town near people you just met. Also after 00:00 in the area of Piata Unirii, if you happen to wait for a late night bus, there are some beggers and homeless people that look like zombies walking around, but they are harmless.
Posted: February 14, 2025Bucharest is fairly safe as long as you take care of yourself, do not walk alone let’s say after 10 pm in empty and dark places. In your house u will feel safe usually there are no crimes or break ins.

Bucharest gets a bad rap online but whilst it's not an amazing destination in itself, it can actually be a really pleasant base for the rest of Romania. There's not a lot of obvious attractions but if you look a little off the beaten path, take day trips out or even explore the more "free range" musuems there's actually plenty to do. The Old Town is cheesy but has some genuinely great nightlife nestled near with some pretty architecture too. My top tips would be to check out the fascinating contrast of Vacaresti national park and take the "ghosts and folklore" walking tour through the city.
Posted: April 25, 2025Experienced: March, 2025Even though I was with a group (we were 4 girls), at night we did not feel very safe with drunk men bothering us and asking to stay with them. The food is not bad but there are not many options for vegetarians. We stayed in a very comfortable b&b and the price was reasonable. We spent around 200 euros for a total of 4 days between food and activities. We went to the famous Bucharest thermal baths and visited the city where the presumed Dracula lived.

Lover of good food (even though because of some medical stuff i m on low carb most of the time), cooking, animals, theatre, arts and travelling. Searching for the beautiful in the authentic. Not a big sports girl, but trying to get there. Big nature fan. High chances of encountering something pig themed in our time together 🐷
