Generally safe, recommended to take some precautions against pickpocketing. Some areas of the city are less safe than others, so I would avoid going there, especially at night (areas like Ferentari, Rahova).
Posted: October 28, 2024It's a fairly safe City compared to other capitals, still some areas need to be walked by more carefully. You can walk after dark, but I prefer places where are more people, to be more crowded.
Posted: October 27, 2024Hey!! I lived in Bucharest for 20 years now and I can tell you that it’s a very safe city. The most problematic place is the old center, where are o lot of Gipsy and homeless people. And of course that is a dirty area with all the clubs and drunk people. Another area you should be aware of is the train station one,,where are a lot of people, many of them without a house. In this area the drugs use is higher and you should pay attention.
Posted: October 26, 2024from my point of view it is a safe city it never happened to me to feel scared that something is going to happen, I can walk without worry and my friends from other countries, that studies here, feel very safe. Bad things happen in every country and every city, yes you have to be careful with your things, you can be robbed anywhere. Romania is not how most of the people picture it, it is actually very cozy, safe and beautiful, the people here are frendly, warm even tho they look cold, almost everyone knows English so you are safe asking for informations.
Posted: October 25, 2024The north is very safe, center is full of pickpockets, the metro is safe at any hour of the day. I am worried at night only at the outskirts of the city. There are night buses which are generally safe.
Posted: September 14, 2024Very safe, clean city with lots of possibilities related to publoc transport. Everybody knows english so the language barrier is not a concern and people are usually very helpful when you ask for stuff.

I don't think it is the safest city but as long as you won't take the yellow taxi and you watch your bag carefully, nothing bad will happen. There are drunk people and bad ones but it depends on everyone experience. I feel safe most of times living here.
Posted: July 13, 2024I think Bucharest safety improved a lot in the last 15 years. Bad things may happen anywhere but I wouldn’t say it’s a normal daily occurrence in Bucharest. As a woman I feel pretty safe, or at least safer than I felt 10 years ago. I would recommend anyone to take the normal safety precautions while travelling - just take an Uber at night, don’t keep your phone in the back pocket etc. It’s always better to be safe than sorry 😁

one of the safest cities, at any time of the day or night public transport, subway, train station or streets, all are safe. people quite open to communicate, never aggressive bars or clubs as well, everyone is having fun but without causing harm to someone

Bucharest is a warm and safe place. Unfortunately, there are a lot of homeless people, but they are harmless. It’s a vibrant city and the locals are very friendly and willing to help. No need to worry about safety.

Hello, My first visit to Bucharest and I am delighted by what I see. A mix of old and modern, sometimes a bit confusing, but very pleasant to look at. I plan to come back to Romania to visit Transylvania. Fatma
Posted: August 3, 2024Experienced: July, 2024Bucharest is mostly safe for women, except the verbal harassment and cat calling can be annoying. Please use ubers instead of the yellow taxis, as those latter ones will try to trick foreigners into spending much more than they have to - sometimes even 10x more. Food is great, diverse and cheap. Everything is open until very late. Public transportation is subpar but there are plenty of ubers.

Hi. I’m Alina from Romania. I have recently discovered solo traveling and it caught me. I like learning about all kind of cultures, cities and their architecture, art and history, especially because I am usually curious and I believe there’s always something interesting to discover. I enjoy meeting new people and hearing about their experiences. I always appreciate a good energy and reliability to a person. Looking forward to meet new people.
