I would say that as long as you are blending in you are safe in the city centre both at night and in day time. Be cautious over neighbourhoods such as : Ferentari, Rahova, Pantelimon, Colentina, Berceni
Posted: April 22, 2025I would say that overall, Bucharest is a safe place except maybe a few places? I wouldn't walk alone in the old city centre at night. Of course, being a woman just makes things harder, but staying here for a year, I wouldn't say I feel too worried about anything.

it really depends on the area you are, some areas are very safe and walking down the street in the middle of the night is no problem (my neighbourhood is like that) but the city center can get scary sometimes. alcoholics are a problem, nit necesarilly homeless ones. there are no stray animals except for a few cats.
Posted: March 23, 2025It s kind of safe but not fully. I will not walk alone again because I have the feeling that somebody is behind me at night. The stores are safe but you need to take care of your bags and money. It s a great place but people ruined it.

I feel that overall, Bucharest is safe, but you should be aware if your belongings and don't leave your phone random on the ground in the old town near people you just met. Also after 00:00 in the area of Piata Unirii, if you happen to wait for a late night bus, there are some beggers and homeless people that look like zombies walking around, but they are harmless.
Posted: February 14, 2025Bucharest is fairly safe as long as you take care of yourself, do not walk alone let’s say after 10 pm in empty and dark places. In your house u will feel safe usually there are no crimes or break ins.
Posted: February 14, 2025Bucharest is overall a pretty safe city for girls even after dark, but you should still keep an eye on your belongings and your pockets. I’ve been living here my whole life and I never had a problem while going out night time but I always avoided strange men. I use public transport on a daily basis and only 2 it happened for me to be touched on my legs by men (over 50 years old). If you ever feel unsafe and if a man touch you or makes you feel uncomfortable in a crowded place then you should make a big scene, that will scare them away.

It’s a safe town for woman. You can walk alone day and night, it doesn’t matter. It’s a safe place and I recommend this city for everyone who wants to feel safe when they are out there alone. Romania it’s a safe country.

Actually, I didn’t encounter many incidents in the morning; I could even say it felt safe. However, bars and nightclubs start to become dangerous after midnight. When I arrived in the city around 6 AM, I came across two groups breaking bottles and fighting, so I immediately changed my route. 🤐 I don’t recommend exploring alone. Other than that, the city and its historical structures are amazing.🤩
Posted: February 3, 2025Bucharest, and Romania really, are moderately safe, safer than other balkan cities/countries, but not completely without wrongdoings. As a woman, you can feel free to walk around the city alone, even at night, and the public transportation should not scare you in any way, but you must be vigilent regarding people, usually young, stealing, even though the chances for that to happen are very low. The locals are, also, very welcoming, and they will be happy to help when asking for directions/advice/help.

Even though I was with a group (we were 4 girls), at night we did not feel very safe with drunk men bothering us and asking to stay with them. The food is not bad but there are not many options for vegetarians. We stayed in a very comfortable b&b and the price was reasonable. We spent around 200 euros for a total of 4 days between food and activities. We went to the famous Bucharest thermal baths and visited the city where the presumed Dracula lived.

Although everybody hates this city, I found myself loving it. I went in with bad expectations but I like it I didn’t feel generally safe, but I went there a lot, and I still love the vibrant city and the activities. Unfortunately, it is very dirty, but there is so much you can do.
