Safety index

Safety at night:Moderate

Constanta relatively safe during the night, although vigilance is still advised. Like any city, some areas can be more risky than others. It's best to stay in well-lit, populated areas and avoid straying into less known or poorly lit streets. Keep your belongings close and be aware of your surroundings. While violent crime is not common, pickpocketing incidents can occur.

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Constanta is generally safe. The city offers a reliable network of buses, trams, and taxis. Keep a close eye on personal belongings as with anywhere, and be aware of your surroundings, particularly during rush hours. The locals are mostly helpful and kind. However, there are not many English speakers which could potentially pose communication challenges. It's advised to have a working knowledge of basic Romanian phrases or use translation apps for ease. Also, consider having exact change for bus fares as conductors are sometimes unable or unwilling to provide change.

Street harassment:Low

In Constanta, it's generally safe to walk around even as a solo female traveler. While it’s always essential to be cautious and aware of your surroundings, cases of street harassment are usually low compared to many other places around the globe. This doesn't mean, however, that they are entirely non-existent. Always trust your instincts and remove yourself from situations or areas that feel uncomfortable.

Petty crimes:Low

Constanta is known for its beautiful coastline and inviting atmosphere. While petty crime such as pickpocketing and purse snatching occasionally occur, especially during the peak tourist season, it is not pervasive throughout the city. As with any destination, maintaining awareness of your surroundings and taking basic security measures can help increase your safety.

Tap water:Safe

In Constanta, as with most locations in Romania, tap water is generally considered safe to drink. It meets the health standards set by the national authorities. However, sometimes the taste or smell may be off-putting due to factors such as the presence of chlorine used for purification. Hence, it's always a good idea to stay cautious and opt for bottled water whenever in doubt, especially if you have a sensitive stomach or are generally used to water from a different region with different mineral contents.

Solo travel experience

From the train station I walked to the sea. I stopped at Panda and had a placinta cu branza dulce, after which I took a walk on the beach. The weather was in my favor, sunny and not too windy. On the way back I passed through the center and by the casino.

Couple travel experience

It was a very romantic experience, getting to know the places of vampire legends was fascinating, the food is very, very good, I loved it. Everything seemed magical to me with castles and fortresses everywhere, and a nature that captivates you among its forests.
