Is Rabat Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Rabat, as the capital city of Morocco, is generally safe with robust police presence and generally respectful locals. However, one still needs to be cautious especially at night and in less crowded areas. Street harassment might occur but usually doesn't escalate beyond catcalling. Always maintain awareness of your surroundings, and be wary of potential pickpockets in crowded areas. Trust your intuition and ensure your accommodation has good security. It's also a good idea to dress modestly to respect local customs and avoid unwanted attention.

How safe is Rabat?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Moderate

Rabat, as the capital of Morocco, generally has a lower crime rate compared to other major cities in the country. It is relatively safe, especially in the main and touristic areas. However, like in any major city, it’s advisable to stay vigilant and cautious, especially when walking alone during late night hours. Public places like restaurants and hotels are usually safe but it's preferable to avoid desolate alleys and streets. Take a taxi when possible and always be aware of your surroundings. Also, local customs and dressing modestly is deeply appreciated and can decrease unwanted attention.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Rabat is generally secure. Buses and trams are well-maintained, and the culture is respectful towards women. Taxis are also widely available and safe to use. However, as with any location, it is important to stay alert particularly when traveling at night and during peak hours due to the possibility of pickpocketing. Keep personal belongings secure and where you can see them. Overall, utilizing public transportation in Rabat offers a secure means of exploring the city.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Moderate

While navigating the streets of Rabat, one might encounter occasional attention or comments, primarily from men. This often stems from the cultural differences and curiosity than malicious intent. It can range from mild flirtation to offers for guidance or services. However, these instances do not generally lead to threatening situations and are mostly non-aggressive. Ensuring that you dress modestly and avoid isolated areas, particularly after dark, can decrease these encounters significantly. It's important to remember that Moroccan people are generally respectful and instances of serious harassment are not the norm.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Moderate

While Rabat is generally considered one of the safer cities in Morocco, there are still incidences of pickpocketing, bag snatching, and small theft, especially in crowded places like markets and tourist sites. It would be advisable to always keep an eye on personal belongings and avoid displaying expensive items in order to not become an easy target.

Rabat which the capital of morocco is actually an expansive city compared to other ones in morocco, the accommodation is expensive if you want a nice neighborhood, the food is really great if you know where to go and I realllyy recommend TAKOTAK (they have THE best burgers ever), as for safety it depends on the places you go to like every city there are good and bad ones

Last summer my friends and i visited rabat, a morocan city near the coast. From my guest mother i learned what it truly means to speack from the heart, and altho we didn‘t share a common language, we shared our humor and caringness. Rabat is a city full of lovely people, street bazars and exiting places.

Family travel

One of the most friendliest place in morroco, I was able to wear shorts and no one was giving me any looks. Locals are very happy to help you, there isn’t much to do in the old town once you’ve visited it, but I recommend it !

You can easily walk alone during the day, receiving looks and people want to talk to you, but they are very welcoming and kind, so you have to get a different way to approach. But overall it's pretty safe, it's not common for locals to assault you, and they gonna stop bothering you if you ignore them. For my experience Rabat it's a pretty safe place, as much as my hometown in Italy (Grosseto), just different people and different languages, but as I said, they are super nice and welcoming.

Rabat is the capital of Morocco and is very safe, cops are everywhere, as long as you don’t go to some bad areas you are very safe. Like anywhere else, disturbing individuals exist but their disturbance isn’t threatening, you just have to ignore them and carry on.
