Is Meknes Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Meknes tends to be quite safe for solo female travelers. It's a smaller city compared to Marrakech or Fez, hence receives fewer tourists and less hustle tends to surround you. However, it is always advisable to adhere to local customs, stay vigilant especially at night, dress modestly to prevent unwanted attention and be aware of your belongings at all times. While crime against tourists is comparatively low, it never hurts to be cautious and alert.

How safe is Meknes?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Moderate

Meknes, like many Moroccan cities, enjoys a generally peaceful environment. However, walking alone at night isn't recommended. Most areas are safe but there's still a chance for petty crime such as robbery or purse-snatching. It's beneficial to remain aware of your surroundings and avoid isolated areas. Stick to well-lit, crowded places for safety.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Moderate

Meknes, being one of the imperial cities of Morocco, generally has reliable and efficient public transportation comprised of buses, taxis, and trains. However, it's necessary to be vigilant as overcrowding can occur, especially during peak times, and this sometimes leads to instances of pickpocketing. As for Grand Taxis and Petit Taxis, always confirm the fare before the trip. Despite these challenges, Meknes' transportation system is overall somewhat safe, but due caution is always advised.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Moderate

Meknes, like many Moroccan cities, can be a mixed bag when it comes to street harassment. While many locals are friendly and welcoming, women, especially solo travelers, might occasionally experience some forms of unsolicited attention, varying from persistent sellers to catcalls. However, this is not a ubiquitous issue and will not largely detract from the overall travel experience being respectful and dressing modestly.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Meknes, generally boasts a lower petty crime rate compared to other Moroccan cities. Occasional instances of pickpocketing and bag-snatching may occur, particularly in crowded markets and tourist areas. However, exercising caution and keeping your belongings secured should keep you relatively safe from these potential issues.

Is Meknes safe for women?

As far as I know , Meknès is a safe city for tourists, the police is doing a great job to assure the safety especially during hilidays or celebration or sport, music events, I haven't heard anything concerning for a very longue time, there areas where the risk is more than others but overall it's safe to yo out during the day, and at night in crowded areas.

Meknès is a very small city that I love a lot. The old Medina is so beautiful. Artisana and architecture is STUNNING. I like people here, they are very welcoming. I never get bored or tired of walking down the old Medina and I have been doing it for more than a decade now either with my friends or alone.
