How safe is Viterbo?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Viterbo is a generally safe place, even after sundown. As is true with many European towns, late-night safety largely depends on the area you are in. Central places and tourist spots are well-lit and reasonably crowded, providing a sense of safety. However, as a caution, it's always best to avoid secluded areas or wandering too far off the beaten path alone. Utilize common travel safety practices, like keeping an eye on your belongings and not accepting rides or walks from strangers.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Viterbo is generally safe. Buses are the primary means of transportation and they are reliable, clean, and usually timely. The drivers are professional and passengers largely respectful. However, as in any city, be sure to take routine precautions such as keeping an eye on your bags and avoid traveling alone late at night.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Viterbo is a relatively safe city with a low rate of street harassment especially towards female travelers. The residents are generally respectful and friendly. That said, it's still recommended to adhere to general safety precautions such as avoiding isolated or less trafficked areas during night-time. Always trust your instincts and be cautious in unfamiliar environments.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Viterbo is generally a safe city with a low level of petty crimes. However, like everywhere else, minor incidents like pickpocketing or bag snatching may happen, especially in crowded places. Always stay alert and mindful of your belongings. It's recommended to avoid isolated areas late at night and be aware of your surroundings at all times.
Tap water:

Tap water:Safe

Tap water in Viterbo is generally safe for consumption. The water is treated and tested according to strict regulations and standards. However, due to variations in piping systems, it's advisable to always ask locals if the water is potable in specific locations or consider using a water filter if you have sensitive digestion. It's also very common in Italy to order and drink bottled water in restaurants.

Group travel experience

I have studied in Viterbo for the last 3 months and it has been such an immersive experience. Very few people here speak English so I have learned Italian very quickly. I have felt very safe walking at night even times when I had to alone. It is well lit, families all over, everyone knows each other. It is a beautiful community.
