How safe is Riomaggiore?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Riomaggiore is considered to be very safe even at night. The village has low crime rates and it is populated with friendly and welcoming locals. While it's always important to take general safety precautions, many female solo travelers have comfortably walked alone at night. However, areas can be quite dimly lit and the village has steep and sometimes slippery paths, so caution is advised while walking especially at night.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Riomaggiore is generally a safe place to use public transportation. The common modes are trains and buses which operate regularly and the connections to other cities are reasonably good. The locals are usually very helpful and kind to travelers. However, please make sure to check the schedules because evening services can be infrequent. Moreover, always stay aware of your surroundings to avoid pickpocketing which is a common nuisance for tourists.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Very low

Riomaggiore is known for its laid-back atmosphere and respectful locals. Locals here are friendly and respectful, often showing a rare kind of coastal town hospitality. Street harassment is rarely reported in this location as both inhabitants and visitors enjoy a harmonious relationship. Safety and comfortability are trademarks of this picturesque village.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Riomaggiore, like most small towns in Italy, enjoys a lower crime rate compared to major cities. However, as a well-visited tourist destination, it's not completely devoid of petty crime. Instances of pickpocketing can occur, especially in crowded areas or public transportation, and scam attempts may also be encountered, particularly with seemingly friendly strangers offering 'help' or gifts. It's always essential to stay vigilant, safeguard your belongings, and avoid flashing expensive items around.

Is Riomaggiore worth visiting?

Solo travel

Cinque Terre overall is very easy to get around, and it's very safe. I travelled late at night on the train and never felt weird at any point. I stayed in an Airbnb run by a woman and that always helps me feel safer. It is expensive here as it caters to tourists. You can get duped by a few not great restaurants in the area but it's easily avoided. HIKE! It's so worth it, but be prepared with sunscreen, trail running shoes (at least) water, basic day hike supplies. Lots of people get injured trying to trek the trails in sandals, and some need helicopter rescues. The emergency team works for free so save them the trouble. Be safe about the water - on the harbour people were getting way too brave on the breakwater rocks and almost hit by waves. Also, ensure you're using a reputable boating company if you're touring the water.
