Budapest is great. This city is very rich in activities and culture. Hungarian people are very friendly. It is also a very good place for food shopping. Lastly, the architecture and beauty of the Danube are unmatched.

Loved Budapest. Great food, beautiful architecture, would wander the streets until I was too cold and go into the nearest bath to warm up. Affordable, easy public transit. Felt safe everywhere I went.

I felt very safe in Budapest, even when walking at night. I recommend visiting Fisherman’s Bastion, Széchenyi Baths, and taking a Danube river cruise. Skip overpriced tourist restaurants in Váci Street. Try local food at the Great Market Hall or eat goulash at a traditional Hungarian bistro. I stayed in District VII (Jewish Quarter), which was lively and close to everything. My budget was around €50–€70 per day, including meals, transport, and attractions. Public transport is easy and reliable—I used trams and metros with a daily pass. My itinerary included Buda Castle, St. Stephen’s Basilica, ruin bars, and the thermal baths. Overall, it was a beautiful and affordable trip!

I travelled to Budapest with my best friend (he is a man) I felt pretty safe there, because I was not alone but also because of the vibes I get from the people and the cities The food was ok, it is not very diversified, however it's cheap to buy foods even in restaurants The monuments are really pretty, I recommend to do the Parliament, all the religious monuments like churches, and to go up the hill to have a perfect view of all the city (go for the sunset!)
Posted: April 15, 2025I felt very safe in Budapest. It is quite big for partying so it’s important to follow some basic safety rules like not leaving your drink unattended or not getting too drunk but overall I have never ever had any issues and men were never menacing or insistant.

Budapest is a beautiful city with a lot to do. If you go here you will never get bored. I haven’t felt unsafe at night alone at all. The clubs were questionable as there were a lot of creepy men but overall great place

The most beautiful place I have ever been. The city is wonderful. A place where romance meets fun and party. I felt pretty safe but please keep in mind that I traveled with my boyfriend. The accommodation where pretty cheap and in good places. Almost everybody speaks English. If I didnt want to travel the world I would be in Budapest every year. This city amazed me.

I was in Debrecen, Hungary for a volunteer I did. I stayed about 6 months and the truth gave me time to know how people are, culture, customs, meals, etc. The truth is that the experience was quite improvable, the organization that "hired me" for volunteering was a disaster. I had difficult times but I also had a good time (outside the volunteer hours). Together with other volunteers we met Budapest, Tokaj, and other parts of Hungary. Sincerely, the Hungarian diet is bad, they eat everything with fat and that, but they explained that it was part of their history. People are, I don't know how to say it, something reluctant to foreigners in Debrecen. I mean, they are nice and such, but hey, you don't always meet kind people. And it is true that there are but not so much.

Budapest was absolutely safe and lively city. People were very helpful and kind. Transports work till late night with no real delays. I prefer the Buda part of the city which is more historic and in the neo-gothic style. I would recommend to not save money and buy thickets for St. Matthias Church as the interior is so unique and stunning!
Posted: April 10, 2025- I found Budapest to be a very safe city. Even when walking home alone after a night out. - It is also a very easy city to get around in, as puplic transportation is really tourist friendly, buses, metro, trams. - I was traveling on a really low budget so I stayed at the Baroque Hostel where I also worked so I stayed there for free. A very cute place. - Honestly I would recommend just walking around the city without looking at a map because you keep bumping in to these beautiful buildings. - And I recommend the Gellert thermal bath! Especially at sunset time.

I would say Hungary is safe for women. In Budapest the centre districts are usually crowded after dark so you are never alone and there are a lot of surveillance cameras. There are a few neighborhoods that people say are dangerous, but I lived in the most dangerous and never happened anything bad with me. The other smaller cities in Hungary are absolutely safe.
Posted: May 13, 2025The safety depends on the area. The Buda side (the hilly side with more green area, the "rich" part) is safer if we talk about strangers on the streets or on the public transport. But the streets are more empty during the night so if something happens, no one will see or help. The Pest side, the city centre is more crowded even in the middle of the night. But strangers, drunk people and homeless people are everywhere.

Hello! I’m an Italian 🇮🇹 Erasmus student currently studying in Budapest, Hungary. I lived in Verona for a few years and it’s a lovely city to visit, good food, people, and many little streets and secrets to discover. I’m studying languages (English and Russian) for teaching, because I love working with kids and students! I’m a crafty person, I love discovering new music, reading classics and travelling. I’m a shy person, but if I feel comfortable I will never shut up. I’m always open to meet new people and exchange interests, cultures, and fun facts about languages! 🥰
