Pretty safe compares to other cities in Europe, you can walk alone in the night as a woman I did many time. And also I’ve never got robbed or know anyone that lives here and got robbed, public transport could be a bit dangerous on weekends because of drunk people
Posted: June 15, 2025Its safe during the day for the ladies too. Just there are some special areas, where you need to watch yourself. These are: Blaha Lujza tér, Kelenföld railway station, Keleti and Déli railway station, Hős and Király street, Deák Ferenc square, 8 th discrict, 4-6 yellow trams, metroline 1 and 2, Széll Kálmán square,

Overall a safe place for girls as well, the public transport is really good, but there are some areas which you should avoid during night pl: pillangó street. The public transport has night buses so you can get home safely 24/7.

Overall, the city centre and the usual sights are very safe especially in daylight. In the night, i wouldnt recommend walking home alone. Also there are quite a few homeless people who can be hostile.
Posted: June 5, 2025I consider Budapest a safe city. One of the best things is that public transportation is working even during the night, there are great night bus lines. I tried them several times and I felt safe. The police will help if you need it. In the train it’s better to look after your bags, but nothing bad happened with me. You can go out at night but don’t speak with homeless people. There are a lot sadly but they won’t bother you most of the times.

It’s very safe in general. It is a small city and public transport is usually safe and available. I have walked at night so many times and it was a safe experience for me. But from some international students I have heard cases of racism.

I really like Budapest! I visited there for the first time in January this year. I spent only one day there and that's why I want to go back. If you happen to be in Budapest, be sure to take a boat ride during sunset or later. I chose sunset and I don't regret it one bit! I didn't feel any danger there. Plus I can't call Budapest expensive. It's definitely cheaper than Berlin or Copenhagen.

I went to Budapest with a group of friends for an Erasmus+, and we loved it. The hostel was around the centre and it was very inexpensive and very cute. The food was good, I loved the soups from Hungary and the sweets. Overall, a beautiful experience since the own city is also very pretty. Would love to repeat this trip.
