How safe is Hungary for women?

Budapest

Budapest is my home. Love to walk around in the city, watching the beautiful buildings and just feel the history surrounding me. Love how the Hungarians are open and helpful with anything and how my beautiful country lives up to the people expectations.

Budapest

As women I think we face more danger. I've never come across very aggressive harassment thankfully, but in the dark when there are fever people I try to be more cautious. F.e. at metro stations in the city there could be some homeless people who will ask for money but I've never encountered an aggressive person, maybe seen some of them have a fight amongst themselves. Also the 4-6 tram line which is very popular can be used by some people that lack manners, and (thankfully just once) I've encountered verbal sexual harassment on it. But I'm not someone who gets hit on a lot even at a bar so... All in all I've mostly seen that people are usually all talks and no action.

Budapest

Budapest is generally safe, you just need to follow the standard rules of not flaunting cash or expensive jewellery, not getting drunk on your own, watching out for pickpockets in crowded areas, not leaving your belongings without somebody watching them etc.

Budapest

I’m living in Budapeste for 3 years and I feel very safe here. With public transportation (that’s one of best in Europe) or walking around alone after 12am, safe enough to use my earphones 😁 Nothing bad never happened to me on the streets or at home. But in parties you must take care of your surroundings, since people get really drunk here bc of the cheap drinks 🤷🏽‍♀️ and they can go crazy.

Budapest

In my opinion, it's one of the safest big cities in Europe. Of course you shouldn't hang around unlit parks or sketchy places at night, but that's just common sense. As a woman, I feel safe walking alone at night.

Budapest

In general, it is a big city, so of course it helps if you are cautious. Especially nearby metro stations, because many times this is where homeless people sleep or louder, less safe gangs gather. But otherwise it is quite safe and you can move around without problems.

Budapest

Mostly the Buda parts are safe, but overal Budapest is very safe and there is a stable police present. I would recommend staying in Buda or V./VI. district. Avoid VIII. and some parts of IX. district.

Pécs

Pécs is very fine, it’s a rather small city and i’d call it calm overall. The center is very fine, there are some suburban areas wherw I wouldn’t walk at night, but yeah, as girls, we always gotta be careful

Gyor

In the downtown there are pretty much drunked peaple mostly at night, but they mostly don’t do anything just shouting or things liked that. But anyway i really love Győr, because it’s not too big but there are a lot of programs even for free also. And the downtown is really pretty, it’s near to the river, so it’s nice.

Budapest, Family travel

This was my first time traveling to Budapest. The city was very beautiful but a bit dirty. People were kind but the food in the city centre was a bit expensive. We paid 95€ for 3 pizzas and a salad (plus 4 beers). So I recommend eating a little more far from the city centre. We visited the Zoo, The Parliament, Citadella, Van Gogh's expedition, and it was amazing. Just pick a colder weather as it can get too hot there. Public transport was easy to use and understand. People can speak English well in restaurants, shops, public places, etc. There are few homeless people that may try to talk to you. I didn't walk alone in the evening but I didn't notice anything dangerous.

I feel safe There is a magnificent opera and ballet building. I watched Swan Lake ballet there. I went to the cinema. The nightlife is quite colorful and I liked it. I wasn't very pleased with the food. It wasn't bad but there wasn't much I liked. I found it a bit oily in general. Prices were average. I didn't find it too much. Public transport was very useful

Balatonfured, Family travel

Balatonfured was a good experience! It has a relaxed atmosphere, with mainly Hungarian local tourists it is off the main tourist path. It has plenty to do, with the promenade giving lovely views of the lake, aquarium, playgrounds, parks, shops, modern art gallery, museum and tourist train. There is also a beach for swimming, boats and plenty of restaurants and bars. There is also a ferry you can take across to the other side of the lake.

It's a beautiful place with many spots worth visiting. The transportation is really good. The food is quite diverse, but if you're going for something typical, be prepared for a soup starter. People are generally very calm and quiet.

About Me

I'm Száva Szabó, 18 - years old, and travel lover. I used to live in Fonyód (Balaton) for 18 years, and now i spend my days in Dresden, because of the university. I'm very social, I am available at any time for a conversation or perhaps a walk:)) I have always traveled a lot with my family, and I would like the joy of this, if with my help others could also experience it. I do sports on a higher level (finswimming), It limits my time a bit, but I can live with it:DD We've always had pets and I love them, so that's not a problem either 😁
