I lived in Pécs for three years, and I felt safe in general. I would probably not walk alone as a woman in the middle of the night, but it’s like that for me everywhere. The only thing worth mentioning is that someone stole my scooter on my second to last day there😭 so lock your scooters/bicycles.
Posted: June 17, 2026I mostly travel in the center of Pécs and it's totally safe maybe some homeless people. If you want to be in the right place during night don't go near the pubs and be on the main street. But most streets are literally dead silent at night so you don't have to worry.

Safest place i've ever been in Hungary (Hungary is overall very safe.) Having a random walk alone like 2 in the morning wouldn't pose a problem. People are kind, openminded. During a week the city is full of uni students from all different countries, never had any conflicts with the either.

Lived here for 7 months already, never been disturbed by anyone at any point, at night there’s not much of a light, therefore some places look super dark and creepy, but nothing ever happened Places that I marked as unsafe, those are during the night as there are some drunken people walking around, just to point that out
