Trier is honestly really beautiful. I enjoyed my time there even though it was fairly hot. My friends and I planned a small trip around the city and my favourite part was Porta Nigra. I hade some guys in my Friend Group so I felt rather safe, so I didn't pay too much attention to my surroundings and I can't make a detailled/accurate estimate

I lived in Mannheim before and here in Trier I feel very safe. I can go outside when it’s dark without a problem. I had one bad experience but instantly there where people to help me and they walked me home. One experience I can tell that can tell you everything is that I have sometime seizures (it’s fine) and I had one while I was walking in the city with my boyfriend and best friend. Instantly a group of girls comes to me to check if I’m safe. I think that summarize it.
Posted: November 11, 2025I have never experienced something bad in trier but i am just living here for 1 year now. The only thing that could be a bid dangerous is trier west, because there are people walking around, that are taking drugs und drincing alcohol. But it is not that bad.
Posted: August 18, 2025i‘d say it‘s pretty safe, mostly cultivated people except a few strange ones and sometimes creepy which i think you‘ll find everywhere but can avoid during daylight and if you‘re in the right parts of town wont bother you in the dark either (hopefully)
Posted: April 24, 2025Trier is usually safe during daytime. At night I don't like to walk around just by myself... I have done it a few times but if there is another way I'd take it. Public Transports are super safe. I never had any issues there...
Posted: April 1, 2025Trier is a safe town, there are lots of students (primarily psychology students) here and you can walk alone at night and feel safe. The only thing you have to keep in mind is that busses only go till 12pm during the week. Since Trier is very walkable as long as you stay in the valley, that is not a big problem, but should be noted.

Hi! I'm Kris, an American married to a German. I've been living in a small town in Germany 20+ years now. We've traveled extensively around the world in past years, but for health reasons not so much now. Happy to give advice, meet up, show you around, etc. if you are ever in our small corner of the world!
