It is safe but one should be careful at the train stations. Especially as a woman in the evening, you don't feel that safe. During the day, you might experience catcalling, but I haven't heard of or personally experienced anything worse. Take care of yourselves when you are out and about in Osterfeld.

It‘s ok, sometimes people fight and there are some strangers stalking, walking behind.. but where aren‘t they? Most popular crime is drug dealing I guess, but yes sometimes people steal.. but I do not feel in permanent danger, I take CS gas with for the worst cases and I prefer to not be alone late.

Oberhausen is a very safe place to visit and stay. I use to go out in the evening and comeback home after midnight and nothing happens. Even near from the train station isn’t a problem. No one will bother you. Sometimes there’re drunk people on the streets but that’s all.
