Posted: July 7, 2025Generally safe. It is very international, thanks to the University of Mannheim. Lots of young people. People are generally kind and helpful here. Has a big Turkish population too. However, I have encountered racism as a brown South Asian female and was also just there when a car deliberately drove into the crowd.

Mannheim is the largest city in the region with many foreigners. And as the major city, the insecurity level is low. However, there have been some cases where women have been sexually harassed or abused. You have to be alert during the day and take precautions at night to lower the danger level.
Posted: June 1, 2025There is no part of the city that feels unsafe during the day; they can all be visited without hesitation. Mannheim is a relatively safe city, although I would rather not visit the red-light district in the Neckarstadt.
