Is Magdeburg safe for solo female travelers?

Magdeburg is generally a safe place for solo female travelers. The city has a low crime rate and situations of assault or theft are rare. However, like any city, it's always important to stay alert, especially at night. German locals are usually welcoming and willing to help tourists. As well, the public transportation is reliable and safe, but close attention to personal belongings should be maintained.

It is always depending on the city district you are. At day is everything fine. If someone can bring you home, would be always the best especially at night. Walk never alone through parks, when there are no lights.

It's usually safe but in some areas I can't say anything but in the city centre where I live it's pretty safe and I love being here. I have heard some things from my German friends that it's not safe sometimes but I have never experienced it.

It's overall very safe there are some parts where i would be careful after the night falls but still not scared just paying more attention. You do have to be careful wher you leave your bike though because it might get stolen

During the day Magdeburg is probably one of more safer cities and you probably won’t be bothered. People are generally quite friendly. At night it can be a bit sketchy depending where you are walking. I typically avoid those areas (mostly Hasselbachplatz). Just stay in well light and more populated areas. Sit at the front of public transportation. Generally be aware of your surroundings and maybe put your phone away. If your gut is telling you to cross the street, then you probably should. Do I generally feel safe? Yes. Would I walk around alone at night? Yes.

Magdeburg is quite safe. Catcalling and harassment mostly happens after dark. All city street's are lit. Small alleyways are uncommon. People take care of eachother. Public transport is quite save and the drivers seem to always have an eye out for woman's safety. Public transport also operates day and night. There are homeless shelters and housing projects that could help in emergency's. Racism: Sexual harassment is more common for POC woman. I have been violently attacked multiple times and get verbally harassed at least once a month. I gotta say you can also just feel the tension, especially after we recently had a POC man kill 6 people on the christmas market. My whole state is quite racist. But for travelers all of this will mostly just be inconvenient. We have community here and you will never be alone in your struggles. Queerhate: There are issues, but woman's sexuality isn't taken seriously anyways, so it's mostly gay looking men and trans people that get harassed. It's safe for queer woman I would say and most people are quite open to it. There is definitely not as much hatecrime here than in the racism category
