It's pretty safe as long as you avoid certain areas like "Am Stern". But overall it's a really safe environment, just the usual "being afraid in the dark" sadly every woman knows. But that isn't specifically because of Kassel, it's because of men in general.

Kassel is generally safe, especially during the day. Like in many cities, there are a few areas where it’s good to stay alert – for example, around Am Stern or the main train station, especially at night. It’s not dangerous in a dramatic way, but things can feel a bit uncomfortable sometimes. Other parts of the city are much calmer and totally fine to walk around, even alone.
Posted: June 9, 2025I have been living here for almost a year and no incidents to mention so far. I frequently walk home at night and I never felt not safe doing so. I also haven't witnessed any harassments in public so far.
Posted: March 29, 2025Based on reports from women living in Kassel, we created a safety map highlighting areas where they feel unsafe during the day or at night.

Hey I'm Anneruth. I am a 26 years old product design student from Kassel, Germany. I love to meet new people, experience new cultures and to see more nice places of this beautiful planet. Also I love hospitality. So feel free to reach out for a stay at Kassel, Germany :) My 3 flatmates and I are staying next to the University of Kassel, not so far from the main train-station, Kassel Hbf. In case you pass by or would like to drop off at Kassel to see the city for some days, I can host you and show you around.
