I’ve been living in Jena for the past four months, and it’s a small but lively university town. I’ve walked home very late at night many times and have always felt completely safe here—never experienced any trouble at all.

Jena is a safe city, because it is not that big at all. Sadly as a women especially in the dark it is always better to be careful and to pay attention. But in general I mostly feel safe, when I am outside.
Posted: August 1, 2025It's quite a safe city. There's lots of students living there so you'll never be truly alone when it's dark, especially when you're downtown. If you're a bit further away from the city centre you're more likely to be by yourself after dark which can be a bit frightening, especially when you're by yourself.
Posted: June 22, 2025Jena is a city full of young students. The majority are students, that’s why city is quite safe. You can walk around the city at anytime, and alone. There’s only one place someone should be a bit more careful walking in the evening & night: it’s called “Lobeda”.
Posted: March 29, 2025Jena is about as safe as any standard place in Germany. You should always be aware of your surroundings, but in over 5 years living there I never had any real safety issues. Some areas like Winzerla and Lobeda are a bit more dangerous, but overall it‘s safe.

Heyoo, I’m Ece a master’s student in Jena, Germany. I love adventure and travelling is the best way to find it. My natural habitat? Somewhere between a pub stool, a tent beneath the stars and uni campus. Let’s meet, share stories, and make new adventures together.

Hey! I’m Kati and I come from the Czech Republic but currently living and studying in Germany! I love getting to know new cultures, languages, people and places which is also the reason why I decided to live abroad🌞Besides travelling and dancing (now mostly lindy hop to swing music) organising cultural events is my great passion💃🏼 In my free time I also like going to the theater, exploring new cafés or crocheting:) I am looking forward to get to know new people and share with them some travel tips🌏
