Esslingen is very safe, especially during daytime, lots of children playing outside. The only thing I would avoid at night is the main station and the area around it but other than that its pretty nice

The city itself is quite safe. The only place that isn't so great is the main train station. In the evening/At night there are often some men where you might not feel comfortable. On the other side, there are always policemen or -women somewhere at the station so you can always go to them for help.
