I have lived in cottbus for almost an year now , personally i havent faced any kinds of safety issues but it does get quite dark at night and street lights are dim lit like most of germany , so i guess its fine but we have to take care regardless .

It's a relatively small city and I feel quite safe in the duration of the past few years I have spent living here. There has been minimal occurrences of anything dangerous happening in day to day life.

Cottbus is a pretty small city and by night there is barely anyone out. As long as you stay in the center, you're fine. You should not go to Sandow and stay aware of your surroundings but thats it. I go out with friends often and nothing ever happened more than some drunk teenagers saying smth to us. I wouldnt really recommend going party tho. Loads of creepy old men.
