How safe is Braunschweig?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Braunschweig is generally safe to walk around at night. It's a student city with a relatively low crime rate. Trust your instincts if something or someone feels off.

Additionally, all information is provided in both German and English, making navigation easier for tourists.

Like anywhere, taking standard precautions like avoiding dimly lit, less busy areas in the evening is a good practice. But generally, unwelcome attention or pestering is not frequently encountered.
Petty crimes:

It is a good recommendation to be aware of your belongings, and take the usual precautions, like not displaying flashy jewelry or leaving your bags unattended in public places. Except for the “Rathaus area” at night, I feel totally safe in Braunschweig. I live there since 20 years and never something bad happens to me. Catcalling happens obviously but not super much. At night you should still be careful around all the clubs

I take public transport here regularly and am not worried. During the day I don't feel the need to be aware of my surroundings, during the night a little bit. I left my bike loked at the train station here for a weekend and it didn't get stolen.

About me

Hi! My Name is Davina. I am grateful to have my own flat for the first time in my life, so now I can host! During the pandemic I started feeding a crow couple that lives close to my flat and now I am fully invested:D I studied in Madrid for a semester. Now, I'm working my first full-time job and get out of the rut I fell into. I like talking/listening to new people and trying new things.
