Bergisch Gladbach is a little city near Cologne. I think it is very safe to walk around alone. The people are mostly friendly and helpful if you need help. I wouldn't be worried about meeting people who would really harm you. Sometimes there are people who ask for money but if you just say no or ignore them they will leave you alone.

It actually is pretty safe. Of coruse there are areas and people you have to be careful around but I overall more positive experience then negative even when walking home alone at night. I would still not recommend but there are a lot of places I would feel 100 times unsafer.
