Is Prague Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Prague, being the capital city of the Czech Republic, is generally considered very safe for solo female travelers. The levels of crime are low with serious crimes like muggings and robbery being quite rare, especially in areas frequented by tourists. The city is well-lit and remains bustling until late in the night, making it safe to walk alone. The public transportation system is reliable, efficient, and operates round-the-clock in the city. Yet, like anywhere, it's always important to remain alert and aware of your surroundings for your personal safety. Also, it's suggested to prefer reputable taxi services or public transport rather than accepting rides from strangers.

How safe is Prague?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Prague is considered fairly safe, especially in comparison to other major cities worldwide. However, general safety precautions should still be practiced, especially at night. Even though most neighborhoods are well-lit and patrolled by local police, avoid less crowded or residential areas late at night. Stick to main streets, ensure to always have a working phone and steer clear of obviously drunken groups or any other potential threats. Common minor issues reported are pick-pockets and scams targeting tourists.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Prague's public transportation network, which includes the metro, trams, and buses, is generally safe and efficient. Many routes operate throughout the day and some even 24/7. The system is widely used by locals and tourists alike. However, as with any crowded public spaces, there are opportunities for pickpocketing, so it's still essential to remain aware of your surroundings and belongings at all times.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Prague in general is a safe city for solo female travelers. Street harassment is not frequently reported, although the experience might differ on an individual basis. It is always wise to stay cautious and aware of your surroundings, especially in less crowded areas and during the nighttime. Overall, respectful interactions and personal safety are generally well-maintained in the city of Prague.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Prague has a relatively low risk of petty crimes for solo female travelers. While the city is generally safe, occasional pick-pocketing incidents do occur in heavily crowded areas such as tourist hotspots and public transportation. However, by being aware of your surroundings and keeping your belongings secure, you can significantly minimize this risk. It is generally safe to walk around Prague both during the day and night, yet, it's always advisable to stick to well-lit, populated areas whenever possible.

Prague felt mostly safe, although very crowded! The christmas markets were cool. I stayed in an all women’s hostel that was right in old town and quite nice, would definitely recommend staying there! You will enjoy if you are an architecture buff or enjoy history! I can’t comment on the party scene but I hear that it is also good.

Very pretty city as well-known. Lots of tourists, very crowded. 3 days were enough. Felt safe, easy to walk around. Some food were expensive, but some were ok. Try lunch menus. Would like to comeback with mom

I was in Prag and I felt really safe. We stayed in a hostel like 40 minutes from the city but it was really easy to go there by train and bus. Even at night they are great and you can experience the night life.

As a person who don't like the big cities, Prague really surprised me! It's so beautiful! The streets are colorful and wide. A lot of great parks: In Riegrovy Sady you can see the sunset In the huge park of the replica of Eiffel tower there is a part with a lot of apple and pear trees. 'Loving hut' it's a great cheap vegan restaurant that you pay by weight (30% off after 19:30) Lotsss of nature 20 minutes by train all around the city Lots of stuff to do and see♥️

I really enjoyed Prague because it felt very small. I stayed in a hostel close to the old town so walking there at night felt very safe, don’t know if you’re more on the outskirts that it might feel different. Furthermore, it was a bit expensive and very crowded, but that is to be expected in august. Would recommend!

I loved prague, this has been my first solo travel as a woman and i felt super safe, I stayed in a social hostel, the mad house hostel that i totally recommend couse they organized activities every day and is a very good way to know new people. Food is good in prague, i’m gluten intolerant but it has been easy to find gluten free options all over the city. Prague is stunning, just RUN to prague

I spent three days in Prague from Strasbourg. I travelled by direct overnight bus. It was quite practical and quite comfortable. I recommend climbing Colin Petrìn for a great view of Prague. Take the magnificent Saint Charles Bridge. Take a break and read a book in the Vojanovy Sady garden. The Museum of Modern Art is very interesting and there's a café nearby that I recommend: Ouky Douky café. I stayed in a youth hostel in Prague 2, Luma terra. It was very good.

You can do most of Prague by foot, but there is public transportation also. Lovely city, lots of things to do / see. It's okay to only speak English in the Prague city but not in the overall country (but you can try to translate using an app, people are friendly)

Prague is one of my favorite cities that's why I chose to return here. The vibe of the city and some part of it, always reminds me home, so i feel special here. The prices went up but it's still cheaper than other Central European countries and West/South. There's so much to see and experience

Is Prague safe for women?

I think Prague is overall a very safe city to be in. Of course, there are parts that are less safe than others, but I would not be worried about a big crime there. The only thing I’d pay attention to are pickpockets, but again, compared to other bigger cities, it is still very uncommon.

Prague is I think, one of the safest cities - we have excellent public transport and no ghetto-no go zone. There can be problems with drunk foreigners (Prague is famous for a cheap beer), but it's one incident in ages. Police are really good and will definitely help if there is any problem. I am feeling overally safe. However, I would warn before pickpockets. As Prague is an extremely turistic place, there are lot of them and also some tourist scams. I would recommend YouTube channel HonestGuide for exact advice.
