Is Prague Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Prague, being the capital city of the Czech Republic, is generally considered very safe for solo female travelers. The levels of crime are low with serious crimes like muggings and robbery being quite rare, especially in areas frequented by tourists. The city is well-lit and remains bustling until late in the night, making it safe to walk alone. The public transportation system is reliable, efficient, and operates round-the-clock in the city. Yet, like anywhere, it's always important to remain alert and aware of your surroundings for your personal safety. Also, it's suggested to prefer reputable taxi services or public transport rather than accepting rides from strangers.

How safe is Prague?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Prague is considered fairly safe, especially in comparison to other major cities worldwide. However, general safety precautions should still be practiced, especially at night. Even though most neighborhoods are well-lit and patrolled by local police, avoid less crowded or residential areas late at night. Stick to main streets, ensure to always have a working phone and steer clear of obviously drunken groups or any other potential threats. Common minor issues reported are pick-pockets and scams targeting tourists.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Prague's public transportation network, which includes the metro, trams, and buses, is generally safe and efficient. Many routes operate throughout the day and some even 24/7. The system is widely used by locals and tourists alike. However, as with any crowded public spaces, there are opportunities for pickpocketing, so it's still essential to remain aware of your surroundings and belongings at all times.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Prague in general is a safe city for solo female travelers. Street harassment is not frequently reported, although the experience might differ on an individual basis. It is always wise to stay cautious and aware of your surroundings, especially in less crowded areas and during the nighttime. Overall, respectful interactions and personal safety are generally well-maintained in the city of Prague.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Prague has a relatively low risk of petty crimes for solo female travelers. While the city is generally safe, occasional pick-pocketing incidents do occur in heavily crowded areas such as tourist hotspots and public transportation. However, by being aware of your surroundings and keeping your belongings secure, you can significantly minimize this risk. It is generally safe to walk around Prague both during the day and night, yet, it's always advisable to stick to well-lit, populated areas whenever possible.

I really enjoyed Prague because it felt very small. I stayed in a hostel close to the old town so walking there at night felt very safe, don’t know if you’re more on the outskirts that it might feel different. Furthermore, it was a bit expensive and very crowded, but that is to be expected in august. Would recommend!

Food is good in prague, i’m gluten intolerant but it has been easy to find gluten free options all over the city. Prague is stunning, just RUN to prague

Group travel

In July 2022 I travelled with my Friends to prague ( a group of 5 girls). We stayed in an airbnb not in the Center of prague, but by foot I think 30 min. far away. It was really nice, we visited different attractions such as musuems or architectural buildings. In the evening we went to a club almost every Night. I felt really safe, many friendly people are outside, even if its really late. The only thing that bothered us a lil bit, was the weather. One day it was so hot, that we had to stay inside our airbnb, because it was too warm outside.

Prague was indeed a very safe city. It was easy to get around, but since the tourist attractions were close to each other, I hardly used any public transportation, so I ended up walking a bit too much.I stay one night there. I enjoyed beautiful views of the city from the Powder Tower and Prague Castle. The Charles Bridge looked very beautiful with its statues. I spent half a day at Prague Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral.

Family travel

I felt extremely safe and free to travel alone in Prague, and with my family. It was safe to walk alone any time of day or night, and when I felt tired, I was able to use the Uber app to get a very inexpensive ride despite not speaking Czech. The city is very old and very walkable. There's a lot to see and explore - and most shops and sites have English-speaking people who can help. We stayed in an Airbnb in the most touristy part of town, but it wasn't too noisy or crowded. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a new experience.

My experience in Prague as a solo traveler for the first time was really lovely. I met other solo travelers and we did some activities together like paint balls and walking around the city. It was quite affordable. And I felt safe even at night.

I think that Prague is a really safe city. It is also easy and affordable to find accommodation. Also the food is amazing to, i would suggest to try to research before you come here for restaurants. The main attractions are also impressive but beware that they can be expensive. I would definitely visit again 10/10

Solo travel

As a solo traveler, I visited Prague in February 2024. The city was calm and not crowded because of the time of year, but I am sure it would be great in summer too (maybe better in summer for those who want to experience nightlife, etc.). My purpose was to have a relaxing and chill holiday, so I loved this magical city in winter too. I felt safe most of the time, but I suggest being careful of thieves. I found it strange that some odd-looking men tried to speak with me on certain streets (especially the street where the sex museum is located).

I lived in Prague from February 2022 to August 2023, and I absolutely loved it! Even though I don’t speak Czech, I managed to get by with English quite well. Prague is an incredibly cosmopolitan city with numerous international companies that employ people from all over the world. I joined a social network called Internations, which made it very easy to meet people from various backgrounds. They organize a variety of activities like cocktails, brunches, hikes, movie nights, and stand-up comedy shows. I also went out dancing a lot with my friends because there are great venues for people my age. In fact, I socialized with colleagues ranging from 21 years old to my age! Everyone was super open and friendly. Safety was never a concern for me, even when going out at night. The city's public transportation is excellent! If you’re visiting, I highly recommend getting a pass because it's totally worth it. There's so much to see in Prague, especially in the city center. Make sure you don’t miss Vysehrad, a stunning site that’s often overlooked by tourists. Also, try to visit the neighborhoods of Vinohrady and Jiřího z Poděbrad for some great food and beers.

I feel very safe in the city and also hiking in the Czech Republic. But Prague is a capital after all, so petty crime such as pickpocketing and vehicle thefts and break-ins occurs. Pay attention when taking a cab, especially at hotspots, unlicensed cabs often wait there. Ordered cabs, that is more reliable. When changing money on the street, foreigners may be given counterfeit money or banknotes of a much lower value by third parties. In bars and other establishments, bills may be increased and narcotics may be used, resulting in theft and occasionally sexual abuse.

Prague is very safe unless you are just unlucky with some bad people but overall its safe. I never had any bad incident in 4 years. Public transport is safe. You may meet few homeless but they are usually not dangerous.

As a person who don't like the big cities, Prague really surprised me! It's so beautiful! The streets are colorful and wide. A lot of great parks: In Riegrovy Sady you can see the sunset In the huge park of the replica of Eiffel tower there is a part with a lot of apple and pear trees. 'Loving hut' it's a great cheap vegan restaurant that you pay by weight (30% off after 19:30) Lotsss of nature 20 minutes by train all around the city Lots of stuff to do and see♥️

I spent three days in Prague from Strasbourg. I travelled by direct overnight bus. It was quite practical and quite comfortable. I recommend climbing Colin Petrìn for a great view of Prague. Take the magnificent Saint Charles Bridge. Take a break and read a book in the Vojanovy Sady garden. The Museum of Modern Art is very interesting and there's a café nearby that I recommend: Ouky Douky café. I stayed in a youth hostel in Prague 2, Luma terra. It was very good.
