Really very very beautiful area. Beautiful forests, especially in autumn. Peaceful, not so many tourists, lots of castles, nice views, beautiful nature. As for safety, it's completely fine, we never met any suspicious people here. We must recommend the restaurant "Restaurace v Ráji" in the village "Ráj". Perhaps the best meal we've had so far. Large portions and surprisingly low price. Mácha Lake is very beautiful. You can swim here in the summer. We also recommend visiting the nearby ruins of Bezděz Castle. The hike is not difficult and it is a place everyone must visit. "Byl pozdní večer, první máj. První máj byl lásky čas. Hrdliččin zval ku lásce hlas, kde borový zaváněl háj." This is part of a poem in the original language by the writer Karel Hynek Mácha, who spent a lot of time in these regions and later IT was named here after him.
