We went to the San Ignacio lagoon to see the whales during baby season. My top tip for that is do NOT go to the biggest lagoon. They do get more whales and everyone seems to go there, but the experience was much better with the smaller lagoon. My sister had a splash fight with a baby for a while and we got to touch them, they came right up to the boat! Magical feeling. You’ll want to rent a car for sure with 4wd and its in a rural area. 5 hours from Loreto if I remember correctly. The only sketchy spot was a military check point, far from the city and a lot of guys with guns. As 3 women in a vehicle it felt scary but nothing bad happened.
