I feel it is a safe place. I have never experienced any issues during the daytime walking through the town or other areas. I have walked the Breakwater and other trails nearby alone during the day. However, one should always be on alert and aware of their surroundings. I have walked home at night from the train station without any issues and never felt unsafe. I think it would be worth getting a Taxi though.
