Pretty safe, avoid "nordstan" at night perhaps, mostly drunks to avoid at night. Pubs are pretty safe with friends. "Andra lång" street by the tram station "järntorget" has really fun pubs an nightlife but most things close at 2.
Posted: April 9, 2025Gothenburg is the safest city I have ever experienced. The city itself is super calm, people respect each other and nobody rushes anywhere. The streets are light, wide and 95% of the city is lightened in the dark.

The Gothenburg is a safe, clean, comfortable and respectful city. I have been living here for a one year. I loved this city. They value children, women and LGBT individuals. They respect them. It's a bit cold in the north but it's not unbearable. I recommend bringing warm clothes even in summer.
Posted: January 30, 2025I feel really safe here and nothing have ever happened to me but you always heard story’s about what happened with other people so your still have to be careful. Gothenburg have some criminality in the suburbs but in the city you don’t notice it.
Posted: December 30, 2024Over all very safe. Not really worried about anything bad happening to me caused by someone else or anyone causing me harm. Walking around alone at night is not really an issue in most areas of the city, but of course there are some areas where you should be more careful, and as always you should be cautious of your surroundings at all times anyways.

Gothenburg is very safe! Sweden in general is very safe. There are people around almost all the time during evening and night and everyone is very helpful. Pickpockets are next to none in gbg as well
Posted: June 23, 2024Very safe in general but just in case, you shouldn't walk alone through the forest or sketchy areas in the middle of the night. Using public transportation is the safest way to travel during dark hours.

I have lived here for over 5 years and I've never felt unsafe! Gothenburg is a safe city for female travellers and its easy to get around by yourself. People are very kind and trustworthy, they are always eager to help.

It's pretty safe, there is crime but not a lot. The most dangoures are gang shootings but they're targeted at other gangs. There is a risc of ending up in the cross fire but you're have to be really unlucky.
Posted: June 6, 2024It’s a generally safe city. Don’t go too far outside of town and you will feel very safe during your visit. The public transport is always good to use, it’s often even safer than walking. Even though walking is fairly safe even during the late hours of the night.

It was very cozy and lovely. Visited some museums and walked around the city and hiked to the Bergsjön in the morning. There was a beautiful lake and view to the whole city. Met some friends and they showed me around.
Posted: July 24, 2024Gothenburg is my hometown. Everywhere downtown is really safe, I even used to walk home alone from night clubs in the middle of the night and I have never felt unsafe.

Adventure seeker, cultural explorer, and lover of meaningful connections! I'm a curious traveler who believes the best way to experience a place is through the eyes of its locals. Whether it’s trying new cuisines, exploring hidden gems, or exchanging stories over a cup of tea, I’m always eager to learn and share experiences. While I’m currently exploring as a guest, I’m equally excited to host fellow travelers in the future. I can’t wait to create a welcoming space where we can exchange stories, inspire one another, and build a community of trust and adventure!

I am an exchange student currently staying in Gothenburg but originally from Ankara (METU). I’m at my final year of studying Molecular Biology and Genetics. I love travelling and currently trying to see as many European countries as I could in my exchange, lmk if you’d like to join! Now after the formal intro - a bit more about me :> I loove connecting with people, reading fiction and nonfiction (classics, Austen, Brontes, Dostoyevsky, Jack London, philosophy, science philosophy, psychology, history, art.. to list main ones), walking, nature, and dedicating time to things I value. I enjoy casual discussions but also more deep ones- like about art, science, philosophy, history (pretty evident by now lol). Also, I love photography and doing photo walks (so make sure to connect if you’d love to do a photo walk!) You can check my photography page on Instagram: @kevsbackarchive 💕🍀 🌞
