Bilbao is overall a safe city. Getting mugged could happen but its not that big of a problem (doesn't happen that often) by keeping an eye in a moderated way, everything should be fine. There are some neighbourhoods that people tend to ignore at night (as it could be san Francisco: still the principal Street is filled with police officers 24/7) I don't know much more about nightlife and during the day I feel totally safe. There's always a possibility of finding someone that behaves in a weird way (I got followed with a friend once) but its not common not dangerous. I understand it as an exception.
Posted: January 20, 2025This city is very safe. Of course there are some neighborhoods where is better not to go at night, Sna Francisco and Cortes streets, but during the day and in the rest of Bilbao is very safe. It feels very safe walking in the city.

I felt safe especially during the day time. I would avoid old town and area around the railway station and parque extebarria when it’s dark. Also i would avoid big spanish people celebrations according the risk of terror attack
Posted: September 19, 2024Experienced: June, 2024I have to say, Bilbao is amazing, both for its people and the food. The cost here is affordable, and the people are very friendly. This is not a commercial city, so l recommend planning for three days and two nights if you want somewhere to chill for solo travel. Definitely recommend it!
