Madrid is a very safe city. I live alone as a young woman and have never felt unsafe as a woman going out at night, walking alone etc. only thing would be a slight risk of pick pockets in crowded touristy areas, but not on the level of many other European cities

Madrid is a súper safe city. I always walk home at any hour. But of course there are a lot of pickpoketers in the center (gran via is the worst). And also if you forget your stuff somewhere - its gone. Recently ,also in the center, you should be more carefull with groups of men. You can find sexual abuse anywhere in the world, so as long as you avoid drunk man and don't react to any of them its okey. There is a lot of police everywhere. Also, lavapies at night is a bit sketchy but still okey if you don't react.
Posted: September 21, 2024Madrid is a pretty safe city. Of course there are areas like everywhere else, but in general, is pretty safe. I live downtown and I never had a problem, neither of my friends. As a woman, u need to be cautious, specially with all the rape cases around, but if even taking public transportation at night, there’s gonna be lot of people around, so no problem.
Posted: September 12, 2024I’ve lived in Madrid for 2 years now and I can say that it is a pretty safe city for women. Of course there are different experiences and some women have told me they have felt uncomfortable at night (depends on the neighborhood you are moving around in). During the day, madrid is not a dangerous city. During the night most of it is not dangerous either. There are some areas of madrid where you might have more problems such as Entrevias, Vallecas or Estrecho. But the downtown area is pretty safe. Of course when walking alone at night try to stay in bigger streets with more light so you feel more seen, but this is more for your personal feeling than for any actual danger. I honestly believe that madrid is one of the safest cities. Only thing: watch out for pickpockets because that does happen very often.
Posted: August 20, 2024After five years in Madrid I consider it the safest big city that I’ve lived in, or probably even visited. Never had any issues when going out to meet friends after dark or taking the subway home. When out at night you see a lot of police driving around. Of course, just as everywhere, bad things happen to women, but it’s for me one of the few places where I feel like don’t have to be constantly looking over my shoulder. Pickpockets are common, specially in touristic areas and terraces. I got robbed my wallet by some girls outside a club a few years ago, but that’s kinda it.

Madrid is a very safe place for us, during night and in public transport. Be careful in turistic places as plaza mayor, sol or calle Montera, some thiefs wait around to take pockets and mobiles. If someone drunk annoy you in the Metro you can call to some worker
Posted: July 30, 2024Aside from pickpocketing near the center, Madrid is perfectly safe and a great place to visit! I don’t know of anyone who has experienced something unsafe in the three years that I’ve lived here. Great city!

Madrid is a very safe city in my opinion. In general you can walk alone after dark with no worries. As in all cities, you have to use your common sense and be aware of your surroundings. In most part, you just have to be aware of pickpockets around touristy areas.
Posted: July 19, 2024Madrid, as any other big city, there’s a lot going on 24/7 but that doesn’t make it unsafe. I do not worry a lot about safety but I feel like you can travel at ease. Anything can happen anywhere, that is what it is.

As a woman Madrid is very safe I can walk alone at 3 am and feel extremley safe. There are pit pockets in crowded areas so just keep track of your things. Also always be aware of your surroundings like you do anywhere else in the world

My experience in Madrid was great! It was my first time traveling out of my country and overall it was amazing. I travelled with my aunt and even though we were nervous because neither of us had been so far from Colombia, when we arrived we were surprised with how easy everything was. In terms of transportation there are the metro and the buses, the can take you literally everywhere and if you use Google Maps you won’t get lost. We stayed in Atocha, so I recommend it, I believe it was close to every major attraction of the city and it has lots of restaurants and cafes that you can visit! We also went to Segovia, it was a beautiful place and totally worth it, we took a train and it was fast getting there. Overall I totally recommend going to Madrid, the people is nice and when we were confused about something, people offered their help!

I have been in Madrid for 3 days. I was staying in a hostel, it was amazing!! I have met with people coming from different countries, it was funny to share our cultures :) People are calm, city is nice but ı do not recommend you to go to Madrid in June if you are sensitive to high temperatures like 35 degrees.. I felt comfortable in that city but you should also be careful because it is capital and everything can happen. You can try tranditional foods and join to “free tour!” By using this opportunity, you can save your money+time and get knowledge about the history of the city!!

Hi I’m Maddie! I’m 20 and currently living and studying in Madrid. I love traveling and discovering new places and cultures, and have a never ending bucket list to tick off. I’m always down to travel and meet with new people from around the world :) I’m a pretty adventurous traveler and enjoy outdoor activities like hiking and biking as well as traditional sightseeing, trying local food, and sometimes getting off the beaten path a bit!
