So I've lived in Madrid for 6 years and I can tell you it's fairly safe. You still have to be cautious as bad things can happen. Especially with your phones and wallet. The city center is full of people every night and you can't walk into an empty alley as there is almost none. If you stay in the outskirts be careful at night. There are certain quarters where you need to be extra careful. I've witnessed two robberies in all those years. People are helpful and will help you if you need help

I do not recommend walking alone at night near the clubs. Otherwise during the day I felt okay walking the streets. Some creeps look at you but that’s it… I lived in the center for a few days near the clubs and I didn’t feel very safe with old men being drunk…
Posted: September 29, 2025As someone who lives in Madrid, I can say the city is generally very safe. Violent crime is rare, and most of us walk around daily without worrying. The main issue is pickpockets, especially in busy spots like Puerta del Sol, Gran Vía, Retiro Park, or crowded metro trains. It’s smart to keep your belongings close and be aware of your surroundings.
Posted: September 20, 2025Madrid is generally safe for women. It depends on the place of course. It's not the same being in Gran Via than in La Cañada Real (which is a very dangerous place). But apart from that, the majority is safe.
Posted: September 17, 2025I felt very safe. Lived there for almost 6 months. I ended up walking home after the club almost every night and felt very safe, night public transportation the same. The only thing you need to be aware of is pickpockets but I believe that is something that’s something common around European capitals.

I really loved Madrid coming from the states it’s a really good blend of cultures. Literally can find good Asian or Latin food anywhere. Spanish food and history is really interesting here and there’s always something to do.
