I was here during a peak season which was spring 2024 and it was pretty fine,I wasn't worried about going in the evening to the market to grab something but there was still cases when men were catcalling me or my friends or were following girls.

I think Rethymno is totally safe, I live here 3 years and I’ve never had a bad experience or heard any . All my friends live close to me so that’s a huge plus. The only thing is that the Cretan man sometimes are violent with other guys which scares me a bit but doesn’t affect me

I've stayed in Rethymno, Crete from February 2024 till the end of may, and it's absolutely my favorite place. You feel the island vibes, but you're also in a city where everything is accessible (supermarkets, restaurants, car rentals, touristic activities). It's also very affordable in regards to a good life quality. I never felt unsafe there; however, I heard that on some beaches at night some men do drugs (but I never witnessed that myself). Main activities to do: go hiking!! There are lots of beaches and mountains close to Rethymno for hiking. You can also rent a boat for a few hours with your friends for an affordable price, jetski, ride ATV, fishing trips, and group boat tours to nearby islands! :)
