I’ve traveled a lot and honestly I’m feeling safe everywhere but in my own city, girls should be careful in Athens, there many places and neighbourhoods in the city centre that are really dangerous at night, try not to walk around alone past 10pm
Posted: February 22, 2025Some parts are definitely sketchy but nothing unlike most major cities. Always ask for advice on where to stay to avoid the “bad” neighborhoods. The suburbs are very safe, so perhaps staying a bit outside of city center is best.
Posted: February 18, 2025It really depends on the area. There are a some dangerous areas like Omonoia, Attiki etc. Generally I’d say that you should be really careful on public transport as there are people that can mug you and you shouldn’t walk alone in alleys with no lights at night even if you are near the center. Also, cat calling is a common thing especially on big roads (avenues).

For me it felt very safe, there are some neighborhoods that have a lot of drug addicts, but even there i havent felt uncomfortable or unsafe, just a bit sad about the situation. Most neighborhoods in athens are very neat.

Athens is a very nice city to travel to. Its full of life and young people. But as every city with too many people you may have different experiences. Theres very good people and some not so much. Depending on where you choose to go out at night, the activities you choose to do and the way you transport from one place to another you are gonna meet different people. Generally in the day time its 100% safe , as a tourist you just have to be careful of your money and cellphone in the center of athens because its so crowded. In the night time you have to be careful always wherever you are in greece or not.

The centre of Athens is fine in the morning and early at night. But when the shops close I think it’s dangerous, especially for women. You have to know what street to choose and to be very careful. In general, if there’s people around you are safe.

In general I think it’s safer than other big european cities as long as you are aware of which neighbourhoods to avoid during night. I would try and avoid Omonoia, Victoria and Metaxourgeio, especially during night and / or being alone. If unsure always better to check with someone local 🙏🏻
Posted: January 27, 2025Athens It it safe but you should be careful. It’s a capital city and can be pretty dangerous. Don’t go to Omonia and Viktoria. Stay at koulaki and neos kosmos! It’s good for you to be careful all the times and especially after 1:00 at the midnight
Posted: January 27, 2025Athens is pretty much safe! The best is to ask the local in order to give you advices about how to move in Athens (as in all a places all over the world)! Also you can use Metro with no fear and Uber taxi or Free now!
Posted: January 26, 2025Athens overall is a safe town with some regions that are better to avoid. For example: Viktoria, Omonoia. It is safe but all women are trying to be aware of our surroundings just to be sure! Robbery is the most common crime here but if you are careful you would be ok!

It was really safe. I stayed close to Ermou Street. (Athens Commercial) I ate my dinner in Bairaktaris Syntagma Square. I spend: -25€ (per a day) for hotel. -10€ (Acropolis) -6€ (National Archeological Museum) -13€ (Dinner) I didn’t take bus or metro. Just shuttle. So I walked to everywhere.

I rented a small Airbnb in a busy neighborhood, close enough to the center so that I could do everything on foot (mind you, I like walking a lot). I ate solo at restaurants for every lunch, but always took food home for the dinners, cause it was my first solo trip and it seemed less scary that way :) You must visit the acropole, of course, but I also recommend to take a pottery class! You can find some on Airbnb experiences: it is a great way to meet People and to make your own souvenir!
