Finland is very easygoing and safe place for travellers. Summers are really nice and winters something to experience. We are polite and a bit timid nation at first sight but when you get to know people they are really kind and caring
Posted: July 15, 2024In the capital (Helsinki) and bigger cities I would follow normal safety procedures according to being aware of walking alone at night and caring about your belongings. Otherwise Finland has very low rate of crimes and corruption so you can safely visit and have a calm state of mind traveling solo as a female. You can almost anytime trust the police and be sound compared to other countries in the world.

Finland is overall a very safe country for travellers. The crime rate is quite low compared to other countries . Of course there can be exceptions and I don’t walk around at night anywhere in the world but no worries in Finland 🇫🇮. Tervetuloa, Welcome.

Finland is one the top 10 safest countries in Europe. I rarely feel scared walking alone home, even if it’s dark or if I’m going home from a bar drunk. You can trust the taxis to not scam you, and most of the taxi apps have safety controls so you can even contact them if you feel unsafe. During summer it’s bright almost 24/7, so that makes it feel even safer. Finland does struggle with racism, but it’s more internalized racism than actual attacks.

Finland is very safe. I have no problems with going out or going home late in the night. People generally respect your privacy and I feel safe in public spaces. The harrasment and discrimination levels are quite low, in general. Of course, it's good to keep your guard up when travelling, but Finland is one of safest countries I know. P. S. I am white female and can't speak on behalf of people from different ethnic groups and their experiences. Wishing everyone to stay safe!
Posted: June 24, 2024Finland in general is extremely safe, with low crime statistics, calm traffic and very well-functioning infrastructure. I've never experienced physical violence, although I have been verbally harassed on a few occasions, almost always by drunk people. It is indeed not uncommon to see people drinking or intoxicated in public, mostly in the evenings and weekends but potentially at any time and day. This also applies to public transport even though drinking alcohol is forbidden there. As for petty crime, pickpocketing mostly happens in Central Helsinki, but I wouldn't leave my belongings unattended anywhere in the country, as a precaution. Racial and religious minorities should note that attitudes in Finland are more hostile than in the rest of western and northern Europe, and racism may contribute to higher rates of especially verbal harassment. General attitudes towards all kinds of minorities are more negative outside of major cities.
Posted: May 20, 2024I spent a week in Finland. It's a very safe place, even at night for women. Everyone speaks English, though the first interactions usually take place in Finnish. It's easy to get around here, and when you talk to people, they are very nice.
Posted: August 9, 2023Travel plan: 3 days in Helsinki Safety: I felt really safe there Recommendations: Helsinki is a small and clear city. The language barrier will not be a problem, as the majority of Finns speak English fluently.

I am a upper secondary school student in Pori, Finland. Travelling has been my passion since I was a child. I have visited South Korea, Switzerland, Thailand, Singapore, Belgium and Italy, and planning to visit many more countries (top of the list being Norway, Iceland, Japan and New Zealand). In my free time, I read, make art, watch TV shows, do sports and volunteer for the European Youth Parliament. Due to my international background I have also been active in meeting international people in my local area, despite not being particularly extroverted. I do not mind sleeping on some blankets on the floor, and am mainly looking for an open-minded host who has a deep understanding of internationality and their local culture.
