Really safe the only strange people are the drunks in the city center and teenager in the late vening going for a drink. Most of the homeles people have social houses so they are out only during the day time to collect cans and etc.

as a woman and a poc, nowhere is truly safe.. but i’ve always described about helsinki or finland as somewhere you dont normally travel to, but you would wanna live in. people are generally helpful and majority speak good english even though we dont typically start a conversation with you.
Posted: May 29, 2025Overall I would say very safe. Most of the time I feel very safe walking in Helsinki. I feel comfortable traveling home alone at night and meeting people. One of the safest citys in Europe. No need to be afraid!

I often walk alone at night, and nothing bad ever happened to me, nor have I been scared. Catcalling etc is rare, exept for when people are drunk. In the city centre - like in any city centre - watch your phones and wallets for pickpocketing. I consider Helsinki very safe, but if you want to be extra careful, avoid these areas after dark if you're alone: city centre, Sörnäinen, Itäkeskus. On a global level I doubt those places are very unsafe though. :)
Posted: May 17, 2025Helsinki is a really safe city for women, on weekend nights there might be some drunk people, shouting etc, but I worked as a bartender in the city for a year and always felt okey going home alone from work at night. Of course there are some less safe areas such as Sörnäinen and Vaasankatu (bars) that I would avoid at night.

I tend to visit late as I live in the nearby city and the nightlife is better, and I generally feel safe and aren't concerned about being by myself even if it's in the middle of the night and it's less crowded.

hi, i’m kyp, recently been cheated on and not even pretending to be fine. booked a 5-day trip to chania to get some sun, space, and maybe start feeling like myself again. listener by nature, shy at first, but love good conversation and even better food. into photography, chasing sunsets, and reminding myself i’m not broken (just bent). if you’re also wandering solo and want a chill photo walk buddy, say hi.
