Porto Alegre is safer than most brazilian cities. However, you should be cautious about robbery and not walk alone in the dark. There are some neighborhoods that are more dangerous, including the commercial center and suburbs.

I consider Porto Alegre a fairly safe city, like an 8/10. As with any big city, you should watch out for your belongings and keep your phone in a safe place (not in your back pocket or exterior backpack pocket), as pickpocketing happens sometimes. After midnight, I avoid walking alone in some areas, but taking ubers has been safe. I live in a very safe apartment building, and break-ins are really not common. In Porto Alegre you will see a lot of homeless people in the downtown area, but they are pretty harmless. Some of them will just ask you for money or food, and every now and then you get a random crazy person - also harmless 95% of the time.

It all depends on the neighborhood. But you got be careful anywhere in the world. Specially at night, don't stay on outside in empty streets. Sometimes we do streets parties, and there is ok, would be a lot of people. And always be careful with your phone, doesn't matter where you are.

In general it’s not the most dangerous city in Brazil, however, I wouldn’t recommend you to go alone at night, or walk with your phone in your hand or valuables jewelry anytime of the day, specially in city center
Posted: July 27, 2024Is not at all a safe place, you need to be really careful. When using the public transportation I recommend using the app "movit" so you wait as less time as possible waiting. Honestly I wave walked alone at night some times but never feeling safe.

I'll say that Brazil in general needs you to be careful. Mostly after dark, is not a good idea to be alone, it is not all bad, if you are in a region with good illumination and with more people is unlikely that something like abuse would happen to you, but still dangerous for you to being robbed.

Hey, Porto Alegre has a lot of safe places to go around but you can’t let your head in the clouds, you need to be aware of the people around and if possible, not walking alone at night, get an Uber or 99 cause they are very safe here but don’t walk like more than 3 blocks alone in the dark. Beside of that is a very nice city and you almost never get guys saying shit or trying to approach you
Posted: May 24, 2024It’s usually safe and very nice place to stay. You just have to be prepared to be there and choose the places carefully . It’s a beautiful city and many options to do! I recommend it a lot. Nice parties and touristic areas!!

Brazilian🇧🇷, always with a smile on my face. And a few random facts to spark a conversation. I can make a good Pudim! Traveling the world has always been my dream, but it took time and courage to break free from the expectations that tried to hold me back. I've learned that we each have the strength to choose our own path and embrace the journey ahead. There's something truly powerful about the bond between women, the way we lift each other up and learn from one another. Sharing our experiences creates a sense of sisterhood that warms the heart and fills us with hope in the world. So, I just wanna say : I love being a woman ✨🌼
